Why is my 6 year old cockatiel suddenly pooping in her food bowl?
Category: Cockateil Food Q&A
She has never been very selective about where she goes, anyone with small birds will know this. But recently when I come home from work and go to let her out, she’s sleeping on top of her food bowl and there’s a massive amount of poop in it. Besides the wasted food and money this costs, I’m concerned when I’m not home she will eat some of it. Suggestions?
About toys: For some reason she has never been interested in toys. I keep lots of toys in her cage and do occasionally switch one out but still she never plays with them.
uugghh, give me a break Spicy….if you don’t like birds why are you bothering to answer my question?

She might be getting bored while you are away. try moving around the toys and perches in her cage. swap out toys for new ones, a few at a time so not to stress her out. Is she warm enough? or maybe she is wanting a new food.
Cockatiels love cooked pasta (cooled) as a snack!
Birds in general are filthy and unsanitary creatures, what do you expect. I’m glad I got rid of mine and got a cat instead.
Simple answer move the food bowl or buy the type that fits onto the wires of it’s cage.
When a bird has to go it Go’s perhaps it wants a change in perches.no bird is selective, in it’s disposal of waste.
That is why they Go on their perch in their favourite roosting spot.
She might be nesting, and she may see her food bowl as a good nesting spot. I would say change everything around in her cage, buy all brand new toys and switch her toys every week. Move her bowls to completely different locations in her cage every week also, and move her cage to a new location.
This is what I do with my lovebird to prevent nesting.
try getting a food and water dish with a cover, so that will not happen. you can get those at the pet store.
