Do I have to wait a week to take my new (hand-fed) baby cockatiel out of it’s cage to play/sit with it?
Category: Cockateil Cage Q&A
I just bought the cockatiel yesterday and the breeder said to wait a week to let it out of the cage, but it seems so lonely and scared. It liked me handling it when I was in the store.

Category: Cockateil Toys Q&A
I’ve been told that he will be a squawker and he won’t learn to talk.
Is this true I talk to him a lot,I tell him to get his toy-and he does, I tell him to play and he plays, running from one end of a perch to the other & dips his head over and over. I’ having a hard time to sit on my finger but Ilove him & have patience &and time.
I meant to say getting him to sit on my finger. (sorry)

So I got my Cockatiel , Hurley, almost 2 weeks ago and he’s already learned how to whistle 2 different types (but he cant do them on command… yet) anyway I dont want him to be stuck in a cage all the time so i stick my hand in the cage and let it sit there so he can get used to it and ive done that this whole week and he doesnt do anything he just sits there!
So any tips/ tricks on training Cockatiels?
Thanks! Do you have any tips on teaching them to whistle or mimic you? and on command?

a baby cockatiel in a cage?
Category: Cockateil Cage Q&A
How old does a baby cockatiel have to be before I can put him in a cage without having to put towels on the floor. He can perch on the bottom perch but he will not climb in the cage or sit on the top perch. I cover the bottom so he won’t fall through the grate.

Screaching Cockateil – What can I do?
Category: Cockateil Training Q&A
I adopted 4 cockateils in February, 2 came from one home and 2 from another. They are all young, less then 9 months. One of them has gotten this horrible screaching thing going, and it is on my last nerve. The other 3 chirp and carry on their conversations, but this guy gives us all headaches. Unfortuntley, he is one that was not hand fed or trained. I try to handle them at least 2 times a day to get used to me, but he doesn’t appear to lke it, he bites, and HARD!
I have thought about maybe seperating him from the rest, but do not want to cause him any unneeded stress, while I sit here with a headache as bad as his screaching. He screaches at any time, morning, noon, and night, even if I have the cage covered, or not. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!
