Question by Ami: Trouble shooting for baby cockatiel that does not want to eat seeds?
I need some help, my baby cockatiel, Sid is a month and a half your old and he does not want to work for his food. I have been handfeeding him Exact’s baby bird formula, and he is now slowly starting to eat seeds. He will eat the seeds for a little while, but then he will stop. He is not wanting to eat enough to fill him. I make sure that he is fed so that he doesn’t starve, but I have also been trying to incorperate more seeds.

The seeds I am talking about are both mullet and regular seeds. And he tends to go for the regular food more often than not.

He shouldn’t be on an all seed diet. You should try more soft foods. I wouldn’t even offer seeds. Seeds = FAT.

Hi I got a cockatiel on friday and I was wonder why it doesn’t like eating pellets. I get pellets and seeds and mix them up in his food bowel but he never eats the pellets on the seeds. He adores sunflower seeds so I pass some to him through his cage every often and so. Am I spoiling him?How do I make him eat pellets and seeds?And also why does he make a zippy noise with his beak?

All birds have their favs, my canary only eats some of his seeds too their are some he never touches its a preference.
You don’t make them eat what they don’t like;
Leave the uneaten food out in the lawn for the wild birds they will eat it.
He will make all kinds of clicks and noises cockatiels are friendly pets talk to them they will respond.

When can i feed seeds to a baby cockatiel?

My baby cockatiels they are four and they are 5 weeks old.They already have their feathers and their crest.

Are seeds or pellets better for my cockatiel?

I have a cockatiel and i’m wondering if seeds are better for her, or the Exact food pellets that are formulated for cockatiels. If I give her seeds she only eats her favorite kinds, not everything available with the mix i give her. (she eats the millet only mostly..)

Thank you for your answer, I was just panicking, because I was reading online it can mess with their heads if they are weaned to early, and this is a sign of it. He’s eating his seeds like a hog, and I tried to mix some pellets with warm water and hand feed but he wouldnt take it, just wanted to beg.
