Homemade Large Cockatiel Play Station?
Category: Cockateil Toys Q&A
Question by •??????•: Homemade Large Cockatiel Play Station?
Hello,
We are going to have seven cockatiels soon, and we need something to occupy them with until they are weaned, and are ready to find homes. And I was wondering how to make a homemade cockatiel play station.
I know that we need to use untreated wood, and that it should be safe for them. What I basically want it to be/have is:
- Large
- Untreated Wood
- Perches
- Toys to be Attached
- Thing to Catch Dropping/Food
- Way to Attach Food/Water Cups
If you could help me on how to do this, all help will be greatly appreciated. Also, if you can tell me other ideas or pictures or maybe suggestions, that would be awesome!!!! It has to be big, big enough for seven cockatiels.

When would a baby cockatiel start to play with toys?
Category: Cockateil Toys Q&A
Question by Annie: When would a baby cockatiel start to play with toys?
We have a baby cockatiel (the store claims it to be anywhere from 4 months to 7 months) for a little more than 2 weeks now. It’s a really sweet bird and doesn’t make noise except when he/she wants to go back to the cage. We trained the bird to step-up and he likes to sit on our shoulders. So, while the bird is comfortable with us, he doesn’t seem to be much active in his cage (its a 3′x4′). He doesn’t play with the bells or the swing in his cage or even go from perch to perch. We have one thick and one thinner natural perches. He will always stay on the perch that we leave him on. He will go to his food/water bowl and then will go back to the nearby perch. But he eats okay and we made sure that he drinks also. I wonder if he is still getting used to the environment. The bird may be a ‘she’ but I would expect even a female cockatiel to be active although she may not make noise. Any help or thoughts, please?
Thank you, Kelly! The bird is also preening fine and the droppings appear to be normal. I hope he is playing when we are not around and is happy.

I am unable to tell whether you’ve been watching it continuously, but most birds fell too giddy and excited or insecure and scared to play inf ront of their owners. If she is drinking and eating fine, then you have one healthy cockatiel! You’ve only had the birds for 2 weeks and it sounds like you guys are doing AWESOME! Congratulations on a new life-long buddy that is surely doing just fine!

Cockatiels Huge New Home Made Cage / Play Yard
Category: Cockateil Cage Videos
INSTEAD OF HAVING 2-3 cages, plus a couple of play yards on the patio, Daddy wanted to make one big cage / playyard for the 4 cockatiels and lovebird. So, some wood, aluminum, screws, some sheet pvc, and a lot of INGINUITY, Daddy just finished building this awesome cage/play yard for the cockatiels and lovebird. I incorporated all the branches, toys, food bowls, swings, and such today. They love it. – Keiko even got a kick out of it. He’s not in this video, but was in the cage earlier, checking it all out.

How do cockatiel’s play with you?
Category: Cockatiel Sounds
“Cockatiels are generally very shy; they will go to the back of their cages when a stranger comes in. They can hiss and try to bite a stranger who tries to get too close to them. Cockatiels make good pets because of their gentle nature and because they require only minimal work. However, they don’t make good pets for young children because they startle easily with very loud sounds. Once bonded with their owners, they will cuddle and play. Cockatiels, like almost all other parrots, love to chew paper and destroy many objects. Cockatiels also love to look at themselves in a mirror and will spend hours doing it.”

What other bird should i get for my cockatiel to play with?
Category: Cockateil Toys Q&A
I have a female cockatiel and I LOVEEEE her and love to play with her. She has toys (mirrors, seed perch, little bells, chain she plays with tons) but i am 13 years old, and i go to school, and play with friends, and i try to play with her as much as i possibly can, but i think it’s just not cutting it.
Dont get me wrong I play with her, and she plays in my bathroom, and we whistle together and she eats little things, and plays with tissue, and toys, but I think I might need another bird. If I did it would need to be a girl because i dont want my bird to have a baby, but if i must get a male cockatiel to make her happy i will. Should i get a parakeet, canary, sun conure, lovebird, another cockatiel? Ill tell u what she likes. She likes 2 look at herself in the mirror, whistle, roll up tissue in her beak, eat, fly around, and be stroked and loves my attention. Pleasse help me for my birds sake!! PLEASE PLEASE! YOU WILL BE HELPING US BOTH OUT!
Luv ya ! Thx for helping ^^

What is the best way to encourage my cockatiel to play?
Category: Cockateil Food Q&A
Whenever my cockatiel is in his cage he just sits there on his perch, or on his food dish. He never plays with any of the toys I put in the cage for him, and shows no interest in anything but food. I don’t want him to get overweight, how can I encourage him to become more active?
My cockatiel doesn’t play?
Category: Cockateil Toys Q&A
My cockatiel isn’t playful, at all, in her cage, she has toys, but she only chews on them. And out of the cage, she pretty much just sits there, she bites, and is really moody. She also doesn’t react to mirrors
How can I change this behavior, and make her more “playfull”?
*were not sure if she is a male or female, I just use she because his/her name is Lulu
way to copy and paste Debby W!
her wings are clipped, and ive had her since june
