My cockatiel wont eat pellets?

Question by ivakassin: My cockatiel wont eat pellets?
Hi,
I have a cockatiel who will not eat pellets. I have tried leaving them in for several days with no other food options. He still refuses to eat them. He loves his seeds but this is the only thing he will eat. I have tried vegetables and fruits as well, the only thing he eats out of those choices are apples. He is at least 20 years old which I know is an unusual age for cockatiels so I’m assuming that since he has lived this long on seeds only he should be fine. I also add vitamin drops to his water. I would love any suggestions. Thanks.

If he is 20 years old you will probably have a pretty hard time changing his diet. They need to be bought up with diff rent foods. They don’t like the change.

my new cockatiel bites my finger when i’m feeding him pellets from my palm, how do i stop this?

Question by grs: my new cockatiel bites my finger when i’m feeding him pellets from my palm, how do i stop this?
it doesnt hurt a lot but i think he might think that my pinky finger is food or something because he continues to bite it and try to like lift it up. he started this today while he was eating out of my palm, he just suddenly started softly first biting my pinky and then it became a little bit harder. i said no in a loud voice after but he continued. so then i stopped feeding him from my palm. ive only had him for 4 days now. is he tring to test my limits or what?

How do you teach seed junkie cockatiels to eat pellets?
Category: Cockateil Health Q&A
Question by Alice: How do you teach seed junkie cockatiels to eat pellets?
Their former owner only fed them seed. I’m trying to teach them how to eat pellets for the sake of their health. So far they’re starving themselves to death because there’s no seed in their food bowl.
Please don’t suggest filling it up halfway with seed, then halfway with pellets. Tried that and they didn’t even touch their pellets. They starved themselves for 3 days chewing on old seed shells.

Try Lafeber diets! They have seed in them but they have the same nutrition as pellets. They sent me free samples & my seed junkies ate them the first try. And they will answer your questions on their website for free, too.
My birds are all healthy and happy now that they are eating a better diet.

Should I still feed my Cockatiel Pellets?
Category: Cockateil Food Q&A
So Ive been feeding my Cockatiels pellets the brand was Exact.I bought it at petco 2 weeks ago. When I change the diet for my cockatiels from seed to pellets they dont seem liking pellets too much. And when they poop the color is red and once it poop on my hand it smells really bad the pellets color were Red and White. When I usually feed it just seeds and it pooped on my hand it doesnt smell as bad as pooping with pellets.I also tried this I put 2 types of food in the cage one seeds and one Pellets (exact) brand. So I checked the food 2 days later and the pellets were still there and the seeds can were EMPTY.Is there a problem with my bird or something but it doesnt seem liking pellets and they poop in different colors.I appreciate all Answers.
Are seeds or pellets better for my cockatiel?
Category: Cockateil Food Q&A
I have a cockatiel and i’m wondering if seeds are better for her, or the Exact food pellets that are formulated for cockatiels. If I give her seeds she only eats her favorite kinds, not everything available with the mix i give her. (she eats the millet only mostly..)
Cockatiel and lovebird pellets?
Category: Cockateil Food Q&A
Ok my first question is my cockatiel ( stormy ) loves the new cockatiel pellets i bought. i heard they should be eating pellets/vegetables/fruits and that 20% or less of their diet should be seeds. so tomorrow should i just fill her food bowl with all pellets since she loves them? (he old diet was an ultimate diet with seeds/vegetables/ fruits/ and a little of the pellets i bought now.) and only give her seeds for a treat?
P.S the cockatiel pellets are called “ZUPREEM NATURAL DIET COCKATIELS”
My second is can i feed those pellets to my lovebird too? i asked the person at bird paradise if i can and she said ” yeah i guess we don’t have any pellets for lovebirds” so should i feed her them too?
THAX GUYS! =)
Where Can I Buy Harrison’s Bird Pellets in Australia?
I’ve never seen them for sale (then again, it’s difficult to find any pellets around here). I live in Geelong, which is near Melbourne.
Can they be bought online anywhere? Or ordered from somewhere within Australia?
The birds I own include cockatiels, grass parrot species, finches, quails, and doves. Are Harrison’s appropriate for all these species or just the parrots?
I need advice on converting my birds diet from seed to pellets?

NIKKI is a little green cheeked conure.
She came into our life about a month ago and she was on a steady diet of Hartz Bonanza Gourmet blend for cockatiels and small hook bills.
We read that conures should be on a diet of predominantly pellets with seeds for treats. So we bought her Zupreem Avaian Maintenance Fruit flavor blend for parrots and conures.
But, she just searches through the dish for the good stuff (seeds) which isn’t there so she just flings the pellets around. (she’s not eating them)
Should we mix seeds in with the pellets or wait her out until she gets hungry enough to eat the pellets?
Also, she likes banana chips and brocoli and nectarines but she wont really even try anything else
