All Living Things Square Cage MD Parrot and smaller… Cockatiel?
Category: Cockateil Cage Q&A
Question by Sarah-may: All Living Things Square Cage MD Parrot and smaller… Cockatiel?
A medium parrot bird cage would be fine for a cockatiel, right?
what if the bars are 3/4th of an inch apart?
Best answer:
Answer by Rose B
In terms of size, a 3′ by 4′ by 2′ cage should be fine for a cockatiel. I googled the cage you referenced, but I couldn’t find any information on its dimensions.
Edit: You’ll also need to make sure the bars are close enough together that your cockatiel can’t get through them — about 1/3 of a inch apart is a good distance.

AFRICAN GRAY PARROT?!?!?!?!?!?
Category: Cockateil Health Q&A
Question by Rachel: AFRICAN GRAY PARROT?!?!?!?!?!?
I want a African gray parrot.
What are the pros and cons of having this bird?
Smallest cage they need?
Male or Female?
Temperament?
Tell me about them?
Do you know of any breeders?
I bought my 2 cockatiels from a pet store and since they were not used to being held because they are stuck in cages,….they dont like being held or touched at all.
So i thought buying from a breeder would be a better choice.
Any website and links is welcome and very helpful!
* i do have lots of experience with big birds, so i do kno the proper way to care and maintain their health….but i have not had one of these birds before, that why im ask questions*

Kili Senegal Parrot – How to File or Trim Parrot Beak
Category: Cockateil Health Videos

WARNING Many species of parrots should not have their beak filed and if done incorrectly or too deep could hurt the bird. I just show the technique of how I do it but you should consult a vet and research if your bird needs to have its beak trimmed before proceeding. This video shows you how to file your parrot’s beak. An overgrown beak can be dangerous to a parrot’s health. In the wild, they use the beak so much that it gets naturally worn down. At home, they don’t get to chew as much because food is generally just served in a little bowl ready to eat. On occasion, the beak may grow so much that you will have to clip it with a nail trimmer. All the other times, you can help the bird shorten it by: A) Providing chewable toys to destroy B) Provide filing perches and beak grinding stones the bird can dull its beak on C) Filing the bird’s beak This video is about filing the bird’s beak to blunt out the point a little bit. Hold the bird on its back and hold the beak shut. Be careful not to catch its tongue. File across the beak. Release the bird and reward it for putting up with you. Here’s a video how to file parrot nails: www.youtube.com And a video about wiping down a messy beak: www.youtube.com Enjoy.

I have a Quaker parrot and a Cockatiel who have been sharing a cage for a Year, should I separate them?
Category: Cockateil Cage Q&A
Question by Billy: I have a Quaker parrot and a Cockatiel who have been sharing a cage for a Year, should I separate them?
The Cockatiel only has one leg (A rat bit the other one off along time ago when we were away it was flying and got stuck on the rat cage) and the Quaker ignores it mostly, but the Cockatiel is not able to get out of the cage and held very often because the Quaker bullies it if it tries to be social.

Answer by ~Princess~
that’s sad about your birds leg.that is so sad.i have just 1 Cockatiel who just had minor surgery yesterday.on her head.ouch poor little bird.yes maybe you should separate them for now.so your cockatiel can eat/drink etc.move around and feel safe.if your Quaker is picking on the Cockatiel.yes i would keep them in separate cages.
Cockatiels are very sociable.and Lovable birds.
Good Luck!

Playful Parrot Food – Growing Grass Shoots
Category: Cockateil Health Videos
You can grow grass shoots from your birds seed – its a source of LIVING green plant food that my budgies and cockatiels love. Healthy and stimulating – more interesting for the bird than pecking seed from a cup! Easy to do, and fun to watch your birdies enjoying! This is a type of environmental enrichment/ captive foraging.

Lovebird and parrot food – nutriberries
Category: Cockateil Food Videos
Had a comment deleted by stargazrt4 about a product a they were selling on ‘Lovebird Daily Food Regimen’ and feeding their birds every day, so thought some people might be interested in this. This video was done using Nutriberries for Cockatiel food. Other pellet foods are the same. A few low quality but genuine bird ingredients followed by artificial vitamins (created in a lab), crap like corn OIL and corn syrup that just makes your birds cranky, loud, moody and more importantly addicted to expensive junk! Everything in the video is what is put into that food, nothing is missing, that is it. Lovebirds are not robots, they need a huge variety of food in order to be satisfied. Especially if you are keeping a single bird, foraging is the number one way they will de-stress and combat boredom. As for the ‘super food’, it has everything (including ample amounts of vitamin A) but is probably low in calcium. An easy way to enrich any seed/grain mix you already have is to add 10% quinoa grains and mix in some red chili flakes (richer in vitamin A than carrots and parrots love its flavour – it doesn’t burn them like it does humans). Commercial ‘pellets’ should ONLY be given as a side food not the main food your birds will ever eat. Promised list of %100 naturally derived ingredients: Quinoa, clipped oats, groats, barley, wheat, buckwheat, paddy rice, brown rice, alfalfa beans, green lentils, red lentils, soya mince, peanuts, safflower seed, striped sunflower seed, red millet …

How to potty train a parrot, lovebird, cockatiel, etc

Yes, it is possible to potty train a pet bird. It just takes patience and repetition. See this page x-evolutionist.com for instructions. Here’s my cockatiel, Pretty Penny, demonstrating that she is, indeed, potty trained. (My Website: x-evolutionist.com )
