i have a pair of pastel face lutino’s they’ve mated.after one month the female laid 3 eggs in the nest box. she has a cuttle bone.i put there cage in a quiet room so nature can take its course. she and the male sit on the eggs. and sometimes they trade spot’s.i also have another question. i heard lutino cockatiel’s have a breeding problem.is that true?

It takes 21 days from the last egg laid and the hen commencing brooding.

As for breeding problems as a Breeder of Cockatiels and various mutations for over 40 years ,I have never encountered any problems with Lutino’s, the only “problem” in some of them is the bare patch on the top of their heads,

The only other problem that you could encounter is if they are related b/s then this amounts to inbreeding and you may get problems?but as for other problems I have yet to encounter any.

So who ever has given you this information does not know what they are talking about.

When breeding Cockatiels they require green food, such as Broccoli, Kale, Cress , Spinach, Dandelion leaves (if you can get them)always wash prior to feeding them.

But best of all is soaked sprouting seed, soak some of their seed .with an addition of Hemp ,Mung Beans and extra Black /White Sunflower, in warm water overnight, drain . rinse, place somewhere warm till it sprouts (2=3 days) rinse and feed from Now till any young are feeding themselves

They would have ample time out of it…so How many Cockatiels would fit comfortably in this cage:

It is 72″ H x 30″ W x 40″ D that includes a “stand” that is ?8 inches?
Please consider…I am also going to many different toys, swings and perches in it.
this is like a six foot cage…

I wouldn’t top 3-4. Any more can cause territory and personality issues.

My oldest cockatiel baby is 6 weeks old now. The other 2 are 2 and 4 days younger. The mother is laying an egg every 2 days which I have to remove. It’s very sad to do this, but I don’t want to separate the babies from their parents. I tried it and they went crazy. The parents called them and they tried their best to return. I let the babies out to fly around the room every other day. The parents have never been out on their own. I adopted them when they were a few months old. The babies also try eating of the different things I put in the cage. The cage is 90x65x70 is it big enough for 5 cockatiels?

Hey there!

The nest box can come down when the chicks are nine weeks old. At six weeks the chicks aren’t finished weaning and still rely on their parents for food. It’s also normal for the parents to lay while the fist clutch is still in the nest. Its best to keep the eggs with the parents as if you keep removing them, it triggers more egg laying in the hen. The birds see it as a predator has gotten to them, so in an attempt to keep their genes alive, the just lay more eggs. If you don’t want more babies, either poke a hole on one end of the unwanted eggs or shake them really good. Then replace them with mom and dad.

The cage should be okay for five tiels as long as their get their out-of-cage play time.

I am getting a cage that is 4ft long, 4 ft high, and 3ft deep. how many cockatiels would it be okay to put in the cage. not a stuffed cage. just an appropriate number so they could be healthy. I am getting a breeding pair of cockatiel and if they have babies i want to know if they will all be okay in there untill they get big enuff to rehome.

Every week day, everyone is out of the house for about 7 hours with school and work. My mom is usually home, but I dont think Im gonna trust my mom with my cockatiel out of its cage. Would it be okay in its cage for 7 hours? And how long, at minimum, does it need to be out of its cage? It could probs be out of its cage more than the minimum but Im just wondering.

Of course he will be okay. It won’t hurt him to be in the cage. The birds always need to be in a cage if they aren’t being watched. As long as someone truthworthy is there to watch over the bird, than he can be okay, but initially… he will be okay.

Do I have to many pets?

I know i have more pets then the avaerage person but when people come over thet say thangs like are you running a zoo. All my pets are well tooken care of, spioled actually. If they get sick they go to thew vet, I love them just as if they were my kids, and my kids enjoy them to. They learn alot from our pets. Well this is what we have, 2 female blue pit bulls,1 male blue pit bull, 1 male blue fawn pit bull, 1 blue chihuahua, 1 rott/ pit mix, 1blue piont himalayan, 1 torti piont himalayan, 1 lylac piont himilayan, a california king snake, 2 cockatiels, a rabbit. a ferret, and about 10 african cichlid fish.
the chihuahua and the pit bulls get along fine, they all get along, but you do have to keep a close eye on the ferret and the rabbit cause the dogs play ruff, i have a 3 bedroom hom with a good sized yard so there is plenty off room for everyone, and between me, my husband, and my 2 kids lots of love. and I don’t mind taking care of them, I’m a stay at home mom and I enjoy taking care of eberyone.

I’d say at least two, but if you use long rope perches it’s better than wooden ones. My cage is slightly larger than yours and I have a rope perch that goes from the top of one corner to the bottom of the cage’s opposite corner, and a pedi-perch which is very therapeutic for their feet. They perch on their food dishes and hang from their toys so they really don’t need more than that. I also have small perches on the outside of the cage for my little guy to rest on while he’s playing outside his cage.

also would you get this bird or a lovebird. i want a playful bird that is quieterr than a cockateil and can speak just a few words.
dont say cockateils are quiet bc mine screams all day everyday when im holding it it is still screaming. it was housed near a macaw for years and so it was loudd?

parakeets are small, playful, and affectionate
that cage can fit about 2 keets, which is perfect for a boy and girl to mate in there
and if you get lucky, the female will lay eggs

good things about keets:
sweet
cute
nice
playful
gorgeous

bad things:
they may get spoiled if you give them lots of love, and they will not like other birds
they can act like toddlers sometime XD
