I read on a site that they can have baby food applesauce, I have a jar of banana, just wondering if I can feed some of that to them, I also have a jar of sweet potatoes, I read that they can also have that, but didn’t read anything about other baby foods, the littlest of the brood, squawks at me everytime I walk in the room, I thought I’d feed him/her something inbetween feedings, maybe just 1/2 a teaspoon, if not that amount, how much would be a good idea, if at all?

Yes, you can feed birds baby food banana, sweet potato, mixed vegetables, green pea’s, green beans, applesauce separately or mix sweet potato with another one or two kinds in a blender and blend well, then warm – check is not too hot before feeding, cool and spoon feed or place in food dish. Birds like warm foods and the above mixture is very healthy avian diet.

Check the crop so you don’t over feed. Try talking to and/or handling the smallest baby bird if you are sure the crop is full and is digesting correctly.

I recently switched my cockatiels to pellets and they took to it fine and everything but their droppings have started to smell really bad and there are about twice as many as them. And recently I found out that mold grows off of them very easily and little bugs that i still don’t know what they are, live on the bottom of their cage

You really should be giving your tiels both seed and pellets, along with fruits and veggies. I keep my bird food (seeds and pellets) stored in the fridge to keep it from molding. If your pellets have molded get rid of it and buy new. If you have good quality pellets they won’t make your birds sick, but eating just pellets could. As for the bugs, check your birds to be sure they are not on your birds as well, they could be mites if they are. You need to clean your cage completely and all toys, perches, and food dishes in the cage as well. If it is mites you can get medication to get rid of them. I’d suggest mixing 3 cups hot water, 2 tbsp baking soda, and 2 tbsp of lemon juice. Put it in a clean spray bottle and use it clean up the cage, etc. if you don’t have any store bought bird cleaner on hand. Good luck.

my cockatiel does that sometimes but its only when he is choking on something like rice krispies or cheerios. sometimes he also gets the seeds’ shells stuck behind his tongue and gags and spits it out but doesnt eat it again…hmm. i think you should see a vet because some birds do show signs of sickness and i think your cockatiel is trying to tell you that there is something wrong with him. dont ignore signs like that because it can get a lot more serious. does he drink water afterwards or no?
