Could I Put Another Cockatiel In The Same Cage As My First Cockatiel Which Is 2 And A Half Years Old?

Question by Zahra J: Could I Put Another Cockatiel In The Same Cage As My First Cockatiel Which Is 2 And A Half Years Old?
I have a cockatiel which is 2 and a half years old, my mum’s friend is givin his cockatiel away and asked us if we’d like to have it. We’re not sure if its a good idea, both cockatiels are the same age but both are also male. I’m also wondering if i should keep them in the same cage, could you please let me know because my mum’s friend said he is going to bring it tomorrow :)
thankyou

you can place them together . 2 males get along just fine before you place them together let them meet outside the cage to see how they act.

My cockatiel chirped for the first time, and keeps doing that, is anything wrong?

Question by grs: My cockatiel chirped for the first time, and keeps doing that, is anything wrong?
I got him yesterrday, took him out 3 times today to play with him. and he’s learned how to step up. i also took him too the vet today. he FINALLLY ate and found his water and food bowl and was able to get to it after i put him on there. He’s 3 months old. He just started chirpping after 10 minutes when i turned on the t.v. , nothing is wrong right? he isn’t stuck on his perch is he? (he is on his perch chirrping, is he just hanging out)? he also preens his feathers ALOT like every 5 minutes for like 1 minute straight. and his crest goes all the way up when someone makes an unfamiliar noise. then when he make noises that he knows like say ‘hello’ he twitches his head sometimes and lowers his crest. what does that mean?

I’m getting a cockatiel for the first time… Any facts I should know?

Question by indierockon: I’m getting a cockatiel for the first time… Any facts I should know?
I found this bird at a pet store yesterday and it was the only one that let me pick it up. She fell asleep right on my finger and let me pet her for like ten minutes. She is plain white unlike the others and no one seems to want her because she’s “the ugly duckling.” I find her absolutely adorable. The other birds pick on her; biting at her and such. I asked the people the work there if she’s sick or anything but they said that she visited the vet a couple days ago and she’s fine. She seems to be depressed and I want to make her happy.

I plan on buying her tomorrow. Are there specific things I should know about cockatiels?

When letting a cockatiel out of the cage for the first time . . . ?

Question by Nonickname: When letting a cockatiel out of the cage for the first time . . . ?
When letting a cockatiel out of the cage for the first time what is the best way to communicate with him? My cockatiel is very uncomfortable/scared of us so I don’t know how well its going to be when we take him out. Do you feed him some type of food, or just let him walk around the ground by himself, hold him on your finger and talk to him, etc??

hi, i just got my first pet, a cockatiel yesterday. and i think it is sleeping to much?

Question by aznsaiyan1029: hi, i just got my first pet, a cockatiel yesterday. and i think it is sleeping to much?
This is my first time in my life ever having a pet. I got a 8 week old cockatiel, and it is doing fine when i got it. hoever, when i woke up the next morning from the day i got it, it was still sleeping at 9 am. then i went out and come back at 3, it is still sleeping. although its sleeping location changes, I wonder if he is okay. does the young cockatiel like mine sleeps a lot? or is he sick?

What happens when a baby cockatiel comes out of the nest for the first time?

Question by Taylor iz my husband!!!: What happens when a baby cockatiel comes out of the nest for the first time?
When the babies first come out of the nest, do they land on a perch or fall to the ground? I also hear that as soon as the babies have fledged the parents will start teaching them to eat seed. Do the parents do this at the food container or on the bottom of the cage?
Thank You

how should i get my cockatiel out of the cage for the first time ?

Question by The Phenom: how should i get my cockatiel out of the cage for the first time ?
should i perch her on my finger and take her out (i did thats before she flew away and crushed into the wall)
or open the cage door and let her go out by herself (but there is a male cockatiel in the same cage and he isnt tame yet he cmay go out and it will be hard to catch him )
or is there any other way ?

Best answer:

Answer by kazaloful
Take her somewhere where they will perform wing clippings. Crashing into the wall isn’t safe. I know some people think it is mean, but it is for the safety of the bird.

Is she tame? You could keep the wings clipped until she trusts you more, and then let them grow out and teach her to fly. I know you shouldn’t have to teach a bird to fly, but sometimes you do! You could teach her to fly to you and make sure she doesn’t crash into things.

For now, I would try to get her on your finger again. Maybe move the cage to where you think is the safest. You are still risking her getting hurt, though.

I would get both birds’ wings clipped and start by perching them on your finger in the cage until they trust you.
