Cockatiel Bird Comes Out Of It’s Cage

Cockatiel bird comes out of it’s cage for awhile and hangs out.

Ive had my cockatiel for a very long time now, ever since i was little. When we first got him he did not come out his cage because he didnt know us very well however after awhile he warmed up to us and he came out of his cage almost every night.
Me and my brothers were very young when we bought him but when we got older we spent less and less time with it. Now that my cockatiel is getting older i feel like i need to spend more time with it because ill miss him so much if ever dies. However when i reach my hand into the cage now he doesnt step onto my finger, hes not scared of me i know that because he lets me pet him and he whistles when i walk into the room all the time but he wont come out of the cage
what should i do?

I’ve heard that when cockateils get older, they like to spend more time alone. Maybe that’s what’s going on with your bird. He might be just mellowing in his old age

When the babies first come out of the nest, do they land on a perch or fall to the ground? I also hear that as soon as the babies have fledged the parents will start teaching them to eat seed. Do the parents do this at the food container or on the bottom of the cage?
