how many days does it take for a pastellutino cockatiel’s egg to hatch?

Question by Scott Bell: how many days does it take for a pastellutino cockatiel’s egg to hatch?
i have a pair of pastel face lutino’s they’ve mated.after one month the female laid 3 eggs in the nest box. she has a cuttle bone.i put there cage in a quiet room so nature can take its course. she and the male sit on the eggs. and sometimes they trade spot’s.i also have another question. i heard lutino cockatiel’s have a breeding problem.is that true?

Best answer:

Answer by wacky
It takes 21 days from the last egg laid and the hen commencing brooding.

As for breeding problems as a Breeder of Cockatiels and various mutations for over 40 years ,I have never encountered any problems with Lutino’s, the only “problem” in some of them is the bare patch on the top of their heads,

The only other problem that you could encounter is if they are related b/s then this amounts to inbreeding and you may get problems?but as for other problems I have yet to encounter any.

So who ever has given you this information does not know what they are talking about.

When breeding Cockatiels they require green food, such as Broccoli, Kale, Cress , Spinach, Dandelion leaves (if you can get them)always wash prior to feeding them.

But best of all is soaked sprouting seed, soak some of their seed .with an addition of Hemp ,Mung Beans and extra Black /White Sunflower, in warm water overnight, drain . rinse, place somewhere warm till it sprouts (2=3 days) rinse and feed from Now till any young are feeding themselves

what temperature would be considered too cold for cockatiels?

Question by Minhal: what temperature would be considered too cold for cockatiels?
I usually keep my cockatiel cage outside at night, but im wondering now if that is a good idea….is it bad for them, they seem to be more comfortable there but it does get pretty cold…is covering the cage with a warm article like a blanket a good solution?

Answer by rcolsen11
Where do you live? Is the bird truly safe where you are housing it?

If you live in a climate that doesn’t go below 65 degrees in the middle of the night than it’s probably OK to leave them outside. Birds like cockatiels are very susceptible to respiratory problems due to cold environments. This includes inside houses that have little or no heat. Covering your bird is a good first step since it will help keep out drafts that make it cold on your bird.

Hope this helps.

BIRD LOVERS: Cockatiel’s strange habits..help or advice?

Question by Sam: BIRD LOVERS: Cockatiel’s strange habits..help or advice?
I have a 14 year old lutino cockatiel named Sunny. He has some strange habits, and i wonder what that could be attributed to. He used to sit up on his perch quite a bit, but when he was younger, i would catch him sitting at the bottom of the cage, kind of in a daze, and if you tried to get his attention or go anywhere near him–god forbid you stick your hand in the cage– he would charge at you, hiss, and try to bite you. This would be every once in awhile, but in the past 6 months, i’ve been noticing him doing this a lot more. He still climbs on his perch, plays with his toys, and eats, but he has been spending about 60 percent of his time at the bottom of the cage. I do leave his door open so he could come to the top of the cage and hang out, and he’s usually okay when he’s perching or on the top of the cage, but when he is on the bottom he is aggressively territorial and VERY cranky. Has anybody had this problem before? and is this a sign of anything serious? I worry because he is old, but otherwise he seems okay.

he seems to just be guarding his territory, picked a private area, perhaps now he is older he has staked more of a claim to “this is my area, stay out , leave me alone” try relate it to a person in the bathroom vs the living room- same house but one area is off limits to “visits “and the other isn’t. if you have kids its easier to understand what i mean. as long as he is “normal” in all other ways it doesn”t seem to be a health issue, the only health related issue i can think of is how are the condition of his toes, nails and pads? you could try changing the perching sticks, they may be worn,a bit used, and perhaps a bit thicker ?

I wouldn’t top 3-4. Any more can cause territory and personality issues.

Cockatiels playing in a box

My three cockatiels playing in their new box. Tuki loves to sing about it, but Dota and Yeke are not too fond of him. Notice in the beginning Tuki sitting in the food bowl. He loves to do that and I think he looks so cute in there. 09/30/09
