clicker training #2 – trust exercise

im trying to get him on my hand and walk on my arm a bit closer to me hes still a bit scared of my hand and he never sat on my hand on his own (i tied this only 2 other times but i had bad video) so this is me getting him slowly to trust me and for each step he takes closer to me i reward him with food .. – but i only click the clicker when hes touching my hand -and i let him eat the food for a bit longer TIP: – to do this you tease him with food -for each step closer he takes towards you, reward the bird with food – keep bringing him closer and closer till he touches you – use the clicker (something that makes click noise) when the bird touches you ***repeat this activity for a few days***

ok so yesterday i got my 3 year old female cockatiel sandy from breeder and she is very healthy and has a very nice temperment anyways she has a problem with being on other peoples shoulders like whenever i have her on my shoulder and someone else wants to pick her up she bites not hard but enogh to not wanna hold her and she loves to be out so how can i teach her that bitting is not acceptable and dont say she is being territorial of you cause its with everybody she will go on anybodys shoulder but wont let anyone take her off and she is a very nice bird and how can she learn that bitting is not acceptable??????

first of all…people don’t like it when people put in their question that the best answer gets 10 points…we know this, all best answers get 10 points.

Now that being said. this is going to sound mean, but thump her in the head when she bites. Im not saying knock her head off or anything, but flick her in the head hard enough for her to feel it. after a while she will put it together that “he when i bite, my head freakin hurts” she’ll stop.

we had a cockatiel when i was younger and the breeder said that it was “hand fed” well come to find out the thing must have been fed hands, not hand fed. cause he would bite the fire out of you when you would reach in to get him out of his cage, try to change who was holding him, he was just flat out mean. well, that’s how we taught him to stop biting, and he would draw blood when he bit. hee hee, his name was bully. so try it, i know it sounds mean, but it works
