How to stop her from pooping in her food?
Category: Cockateil Food Q&A
Question by ~I <3 Music Boxes~: How to stop her from pooping in her food?
http://www.petsonthenet.co.nz/images/cyberpetbirdcage.jpg
^ this is basically the cage I have for my female cockateil. The dishes provided are simple metal bowls. Im having a hard time finding food dishes for her that are covered, and yet still compatable with her cage!!!
There are no lift up doors on her cage, only doors that open out, so that leaves out all the nice covered dishes you simply shut a door down upon.
I did find bowls that simply screw on to the cage, but they have no covers!!! Someone help please? I cant seem to find any bowls for her. Found a water silo that will work, but no food silos, that are big enough for her food :/
Let me explain a bit better, she likes to SIT IN the food while she eats, or uses the side of the dish as a perch, and thats how her poop is getting it in.
What i have now are exactly like the coop cups, but I NEED a LID!!!

Hi! Good question. As a cockatiel owner, I also had to do much research on cockatiel diets and healthy table foods.
When you buy your cockatiel, he will probably be on an all seed diet. Make sure you change this to an all pelleted diet. An all seed diet is very high in fat and can give your cockatiel digestive problems and shorten his life span. At many pet stores, Lafeber’s Pellets are the most common healthy pellets you can feed your cockatiel. There are other great brands of pellet, but Lafeber’s are like the only ones you can find at pet stores. These pellets are very healthy, and are naturally made containing many of the nutrients a cockatiel needs to live a healthy life. (Read up on Lafeber’s pellets here http://www.lafeber.com/pinnacle/index.php?p=catalog&parent=27&pg=1 ) Pellets should be thrown away and replaced at least once a day. More if nessasary. However, you can also feed your cockatiels seed treats every once in a while. This way, your cockatiel can still have seeds, but in moderation. Also, seeds are very tasty to birds!
Cockatiels also need table foods and fruits and veggies. Not everything needed is in pellets. There are many types of fruits and veggies cockaitels can eat and they need to be fed in moderation sense cockatiels are very small birds. When introducing them, it’s best to cut them up into different shapes and give them a variety. Not all birds will enjoy everything you put in front of them. This gives them the opurtunity to choose different foods that are healthy and that they enjoy.
And remember the cuttle bone! All birds need cuttle bone as a sourse of calcium. This keeps their bones strong and their beaks healhty. Without it, a bird is more at risk for broken bones. Also make sure to never buy your cockatiel grit! These have been proven to cause digestive problems, and does not help a bird what so ever with his diet. And water should be changed once a day or more as well.

Lovebird and parrot food – nutriberries
Category: Cockateil Food Videos
Had a comment deleted by stargazrt4 about a product a they were selling on ‘Lovebird Daily Food Regimen’ and feeding their birds every day, so thought some people might be interested in this. This video was done using Nutriberries for Cockatiel food. Other pellet foods are the same. A few low quality but genuine bird ingredients followed by artificial vitamins (created in a lab), crap like corn OIL and corn syrup that just makes your birds cranky, loud, moody and more importantly addicted to expensive junk! Everything in the video is what is put into that food, nothing is missing, that is it. Lovebirds are not robots, they need a huge variety of food in order to be satisfied. Especially if you are keeping a single bird, foraging is the number one way they will de-stress and combat boredom. As for the ‘super food’, it has everything (including ample amounts of vitamin A) but is probably low in calcium. An easy way to enrich any seed/grain mix you already have is to add 10% quinoa grains and mix in some red chili flakes (richer in vitamin A than carrots and parrots love its flavour – it doesn’t burn them like it does humans). Commercial ‘pellets’ should ONLY be given as a side food not the main food your birds will ever eat. Promised list of %100 naturally derived ingredients: Quinoa, clipped oats, groats, barley, wheat, buckwheat, paddy rice, brown rice, alfalfa beans, green lentils, red lentils, soya mince, peanuts, safflower seed, striped sunflower seed, red millet …
