Diffrent birds in the same cage?

Question by BuRn Di WiSdOm WeEd: Diffrent birds in the same cage?
I have one female cockatiel in her own cage and then 5 budgies in another (they are large cages/homes). I wanted to get a parrotlet but was wondering if it can go in the same cage as the budgies or not?

Answer by Rain S
Absolutely not! I have seen some VERY serious damage done to parakeets from this exact sort of situation! It would need it’s own cage.

what birds can live with my cockatiel?

Question by cowzrkul05: what birds can live with my cockatiel?
I have a 2 month old cockatiel in a rather large cage that looks bigger enough for more than one bird. What birds can live with my ‘tiel? Or is my best bet just to buy another ‘tiel? I was wondering because when summer is over I have to go to school and don’t want him to be lonely.

Parakeets are great with Cockatiels. My cousin used to have 2 Cockatiels and about 4 parakeets in one cage.

birds dying? Same time?

Question by Jullie: birds dying? Same time?
Hi,
i have had two cockatiels and they both died in a matter of 2 weeks from coming to my home. We bought them from a bird store and the first one died so we went back to the store and they gave us another and it died in two weeks. And some people say is your house dirty? I dont want to sound braggy but we are quite wealthy and live in a nice clean big house. So its not that. I dont know what it is and i am scared to get another bird. What could it be?
Now the store did close down 2 months later maybe a bird flu went around? and the weird thing is is my mom got up at 6:00 and the bird was fine and showed NO symptoms f being sick and an hour later when she went to wake me the bird was dead. It was so weird and the birds would have their heads tucked under their wings. I dont know. PLZ help
Ya I returned the cage ( after i scrubbed it with bleach)
and i am hesitent to get another bird
Yes we do i should check that.
No i wasnt trying to brag about being “wealthy” i just get so many answers saying “well if u live in a messy house u probably killed them iwith some mold or something” i am just tired of those answers so i was making it clear.

yes we do use that.
No one smokes in our house tho only my bro does and hes moving out when he graduates high school when school ends. But he NEVER smokes inside always outside. he knows he would never do that even he thinks its gross
**WOW***
wow okay thank you,
i learned lot of things i did lots of research and took really good care of my birds (i am kind of perfectionest and like things to be clean but i am not crazy)
so i cleaned their dishes and cash every day between my family the birds were almost always out. so thank you very much
i didnt know air fresheners and such hurt birds i knew non stick cook ware did tho
thank you very much
also i know ALL about puppy mills i didnt know they did it with other animals too until i saw this thing on MSN with a video of petsmart animals and there was this one guy neuturing a rabbit with our gloves, he used clorax wipes to disinfect ANd the poor rabbit wasnt funny put to sleep so it could still feel pain
AWFUL do ppl think animals cant feel pain or something?
I DID DO RESEARCH!!!!
I AM FULLY
aware that teflon is poisinous to birds

Petsmart was closed down because the birds were all sick from the breeder they bought from.
If this is where you bought them ask for your money back and tell why.

Birds can die fast, they don’t show the signs of sickness like dogs and cats do.

I am so sorry you had to go through this.
Scrub down the cage with hot water and bleach, then rinse and rinse really well and dry and air well before ever putting another bird in this same cage.

These babies were sick when you bought them.

It’s hot outside, but is it alright to leave a sheet over my bird’s cage?

Question by ?: It’s hot outside, but is it alright to leave a sheet over my bird’s cage?
It’s night time and I wanted to leave a sheet on my cockatiel’s cage to tell her to go to sleep. But, my mom is scared it might get too hot. Should I do this or just take it off?

Best answer:

Answer by debi with a “v”
How hot is it? A sheet doesn’t add too much temperature, if anything without one over night it will get too cold. If you’re worried, leave the back side of the cage open, but cover the rest.

I’d do that if it is over 85. Anything less, I would think it should be fine.

Careers With Birds: What Are My Options?

Question by •??????•: Careers With Birds: What Are My Options?
Hi!

I love birds, and I enjoy researching them and handling them, plus I just enjoy them in general. I have five birds as of late, three cockatiels and two parakeets. I know, these are only starter birds, but hopefully I will expand and be able to work with more than these.

Anyways, I have already bred cockatiels and parakeets, so I am familiar with breeding and probably will do it for a hobby as I get older. But I want to work with other kinds of birds and not be a full-time breeder. I love ALL birds, am willing to take bites and scratches, am willing to take care of birds, and am a little experienced.

I do NOT want to be a avian vet! I would feel responsible if one dies on me, plus I don’t like to do surgeries and all that stuff. I can deal with caring for sick, injured, abused, or birds that were unable to be homed.

What jobs can I get by working with birds? And also, if you can provide anyone that has worked with birds as a career, can you give me information.

Here are the ones I know of:

Veterinary Assistant
Behaviourist
Trainer
Wildlife Rehabilitator
Avian Science Assistant

All of the above require some formal education, so start Google searching these titles and seek out courses that are available in your area. This will narrow your search.

I’ve had job offers from veterinarians in my area, but as I’m highly allergic to dogs and cats, I was unable to accept, and I have no formal training to be an VA. :)

Feeding My Birds Eggs?

Question by chocoboryo: Feeding My Birds Eggs?
I want to feed my birds the eggs they lay, shell and all (my main egg layers are the quails and zebra finches.. and occasionally I get some from my cockatiels and dove).

Assuming this is okay, how do you reccomend preparing the eggs (hard boiled, scrambled, etc?)

Or is it better just to feed chicken eggs or no eggs at all?

Sorry if people from the bird section are getting sick of all my questions one after an another.. but I have a lot of real questions to ask…

My cockatiel loves eating scrambled eggs. I give her some of mine all the time. I fix them with just a little olive oil and sweet peppers and onions.

Flu and birds (including swine flu)?

Question by Cassandra R: Flu and birds (including swine flu)?
We have eleven birds (five baby budgerigars, three adults, three cockatiels) and one dog. I’m sick with the flu (doubt its the H1N1), but I was wondering, is it safe to handle our birds, especially the babies?

Best answer:

Answer by Mel
No I wouldn’t take the chance, esp. with baby birds. I believe birds can’t get germs from humans – but humans can get germs from birds. Not Avian flu but there is another illness (forget the name) that comes from parrots and is very contagious among parrots.

I have 2 male cockatiel birds both in the same cage, they just started fighting a lot?

Question by bsx021: I have 2 male cockatiel birds both in the same cage, they just started fighting a lot?
When I get home from work there’s feather all around the cage, one bird is always picking at the other. Is it not good to have them in the same cage? Will they kill each other? The one bird that does all the picking will not quit pacing the cage and is always loud and will never stop. I was thinking about getting rid of that bird because it is gettting on my nerves. Would it help if I got the wings and toes clipped? I need some advise.(thanks)
