Yeah, that’s just barley big enough for only one. If you end up getting another one, get a bigger cage.

Omg my female cockatiel bird just laid an egg on the floor?
Category: Cockateil Cage Q&A
Question by ?? will eat u ? heat u: Omg my female cockatiel bird just laid an egg on the floor?
I don’t really know what to do. I think it is fertilized because she is living in the same cage with a male. I just bought a nesting box and put the egg in there, did i do something wrong? And also i found it weird that my male cockatiel was the first to go into it.

it is normal for the male to go in the box first. Now he will start making as much pretty noises as he can to entice her into the box. placing the egg in the box might help give the female the idea that that is where she is suppose to lay eggs. though it may already be dead as most eggs laid on the cage floor do not survive long enough to hatch.

When is a good time for me to start taking my bird out of it’s cage without me being bitten?
Category: Cockateil Cage Q&A
Question by gangsta_bunny: When is a good time for me to start taking my bird out of it’s cage without me being bitten?
I just got a bird (cockatiel) yesterday, (i’ve never had one before) and it apparently hates me, but it occasionally chirps. (is this a good sign?) and i would like to know when i can start taking him out of the cage on my finger without the risk of him biting me?

Answer by Pie-O-My
If you wait for a “good” time, you’ll never get it out of that cage. The ONLY way to get a new bird used to you is to handle it as much as possible. You will HAVE to learn to accept a few bites. You can deflect them by turning your fingers under when it makes a move to bite — it’s harder for a small beak to get hold of a large knuckle. DO NOT wear gloves — instead, use a dowel-type perch to get the bird out of the cage or use a towel (but be careful you don’t crush the bird in the process). You have to take the initiative here and NOT wait for the bird to “let” you in.
If the bird’s wings are not clipped, it will take even longer. If they’re not clipped, take it to a vet or pet store to have the wings trimmed. This way, the bird will learn that it can’t just fly away when you try to handle it.

No it is too late your bird is much told old to accept a new companion such as a Finch, and least of all Parrotlet or a Parakeet. Both the latter would harm your Cockatiel, in various ways ,they have a nasty habit of pecking at the toes of larger birds such as yours even to the extend where it could loose them.
The only bird that she will accept is another Cockatiel.

Hi do you plan on ordering one and having it delivered or did you prefer to go pick it out and take it home with you ? If you are ordering one there is Doctors Smith & Foster that carry a nice line of cages there is a rather large one that would house your babies very nicely it is 399.99.. or you could go to petco they usually have cages but not real big ones ( usually ) try a local pet store that has birds they would have what you want but beware they charge a little more.. Or you can go on Ebay and buy a very nice cage cheaper and new too.. Whichever way you go won’t they be happy to have a new home.. Have fun ….
