Cockatiel grinding his beak on cage at night

I think Floyd is just looking for attention but perhaps he’s just sharpening his beak.

New Cockatiel Behavior??? I just got a cockatiel and hes doing some wierd stuff.Making wierd beak noises etc?

Category: Cockatiel

hes making these grinding noises with his beak this morning, and turning away from me (which means hes scared), and yawning and putting his wings out sometimes…The noise he makes with his beak sounds kinda like squeaky shoes on linoleum and grinding.

Healthy Beak?

How can I tell my cockateil has a healthy beak? Should it look completely smooth or is it okay that it’s not? It’s not flakey or anything it’s just not perfect. Other than a calcium stone, what else can I give her for better health?

Why does my cockatiel hit his beak on the plastic part of the cage?

he does it pretty hard, multiple times in a row. does anyone else’s bird do this?

Does it sound like I have a healthy Cockatiel?

I bought a Cockatiel from a nice young woman I found in the internet classifieds. I picked the quieter bird with the duller orange cheek patches instead of the louder one who had bright orange cheeks and seemed less interested in me. She( i assume it’s a girl) has bright black eyes and no snot coming out of here cere(nose) and her colour is impeccable and she is really a looker and so gorgeous! Her feet are pink and warm and healthy looking. She preens regularly and will eat out of my hand without me having to coax her to do it. She will walk on me and play with toys on my tummy. She will kiss me on the lips and gently bite down with her beak but not enough for me to notice. She thinks my freckles are food! haha. When I whistle to her she gets hyped up and gets real feisty and wants to play. I’ve only had her since 5:30pm last night. She loves to preen and tidy herself up while sitting on my head and for some reason she doesn’t crap on my head! do you think my bird is healthy and happy

So.I have an incredibly old cockatiel and am wondering what to expect?

Sandra asked:

My cat died very recently, so I’ve been overly aware of all of our elderly pets. Every time our 17-year-old dog so much as has a paw slip on a linoleum floor, I hold my breath. But there are no pets in our house as ancient as our pet cockatiel, Herman. He has been in our house since before I was born, and I’m nineteen. He was not a baby when he moved in, either. In fact…he was given to my uncle for a birthday present. On his ELEVENTH birthday. And while I’m not sure of my uncle’s exact age now, I assume that he is somewhere around my mother’s age and she would have turned 47 today. So Herman must be in his thirties, or very close to it. Right now he is of good health. His appetite is healthy, he sings, he chirps, he clips his beak on the bars of his cage if he wants attention, and he climbs around and around his circular cage many times a day, depending on what he wants to look at. So now is not the issue. But when things do turn bad someday, what will the signs be?
I am just tired of being taken unawares. My cat died of a chronic sickness (heart failure), but she hid it entirely from us until it was way too late for medication to help. I have heard that birds, too, will conceal illnesses. I just want to be prepared and be aware of it when his age finally catches up to him, so I can make him as comfortable as I can.
