Trouble shooting for baby cockatiel that does not want to eat seeds?

Question by Ami: Trouble shooting for baby cockatiel that does not want to eat seeds?
I need some help, my baby cockatiel, Sid is a month and a half your old and he does not want to work for his food. I have been handfeeding him Exact’s baby bird formula, and he is now slowly starting to eat seeds. He will eat the seeds for a little while, but then he will stop. He is not wanting to eat enough to fill him. I make sure that he is fed so that he doesn’t starve, but I have also been trying to incorperate more seeds.

Help?
~Thanks
The seeds I am talking about are both mullet and regular seeds. And he tends to go for the regular food more often than not.

He shouldn’t be on an all seed diet. You should try more soft foods. I wouldn’t even offer seeds. Seeds = FAT.

This is Bon-Bon, my baby cockatiel. Im not sure how old he or she is. I’m not even sure of Bon-Bon’s gender. ^_^ And this is also my first time in hand-taming a cockatiel. This is the third day since I took Bon-Bon from his/her parents. I already clipped his/her wings – sorry for those who insists of letting a vet clip the wings of their cockatiel, just don’t have budget for a vet. I started feeding him/her a blendered mix of energen, banana, egg and “malunggay” leaves. I’m trying this new trick on Bon-Bon and I’m glad he/she is responding very well. Hope I could teach him/her new tricks in the future. Constructive criticisms are allowed but please no cursing. Thanks!

How do i stop my cockatiel from eating her baby!?

Question by mithamour2: How do i stop my cockatiel from eating her baby!?
Every time i put my female cockatiel with the baby she starts biting it and then the baby starts to bleed. the dad is just sitting there and the mom keeps going at it. Every time i look up there is blood on the the females beak. we don’t have enough money for a cage so they are just sitting in my room right now flying around. Also they have the eggs and the one baby behind my trophies so i need to have an answer!!!!
The baby was born yesterday December 13,2008

how old is the baby? after about 3 weeks you need to remove the baby bird away from its mom, and put it in a different cage, or else this is what happens

When my cockatiel layed an egg we bought a nesting box from the pet shop. You shouldn’t have to do anything for the baby. The mom and dad should take care of it. You could try and stick in a little box with a whole in the side. You might wanna make sure that their is a way to open and look into the box so you can check on the baby from time to time. Also you could go to the library and find a book or look on google or something for some more info.

I think my baby cockatiel has gas crop???

Question by seena1802: I think my baby cockatiel has gas crop???
I am hand raising a cockatiel that is approx 35 days old, a few days ago i noticed its crop was not emptying and he wasn’t begging for food. I took him to an avian vet who drained his crop, injected with glucose & prescribed antibiotics & nilstat which i give 3 drops morning & night. As soon as his crop drained he became lively and begged for food constantly, i thought he would be fine but 3 days later his crop is still slow to empty and it looks more like a balloon that want sto pop, he has gone quiet again and not hungry, i havent fed him for nearly 24 hours because his crop is so big but i have been giving 2-5ml warm fluids regularly to keep him hydrated, i am taking him to the vet tomorrow, am i doing the right thing in the meantime???

Best answer:

Answer by John P
Get him to the Vet as soon as possible. The “balloon” description would seem to indicate that he does indeed have sour crop.
If the Vet can pull him through again I would suggest that you try a different baby bird formula, and cut down on the number of times you feed him. Put him on a strict feeding schedule instead of feeding him whenever he begs. Every 2 hours would probably be a good start for a feeding schedule.

Good luck
