Can I put my cockatiel in a aviary?
Category: Cockateil Food Q&A
Question by Lisa Ferman: Can I put my cockatiel in a aviary?
I have a cockatiel, and I feel that he/she is lonely… I take him:her out every day after school, and I love him/her to bits ! my cockatiel is so sweet and cute, and he makes me laugh. But sadly, I dont feel that its right to keep him alone in his cage in the house. I feel that birds should be free to live in the wild and fly around and live there life ! But of course I cannot just let my cockatiel go, and fly around in the city… Thats just stupid… So I thought maybe, my uncle has a big garden with a BIG aviary in his garden. Recently he put two rare (baby) parrots in, So i thought while the parrots are still young I should put him in there so that they grow up being use to having a different bird in their aviary. They eat fruit and some seeds, people work their and they take care of the birds. So I was wondering if I could put my cockatiel in the aviary iwith the other parrots.
I live in the south of france, but in the winter it can get a bit chilly, so wont he be cold ? can they all eat the same food ? will they get along ? should i put another bird of the same kind in there with him while im at it ? Please give any extra help if you can. I love my cockatiel and I want him to be happy !

You cannot take a bird outside, it is dangerous, with the pollution and may stress you cockatiel out (too much stress for an animal could lead to death) .
It would be a great idea to put your cockatiel in this big aviary but when it gets cold you must bring it inside as their species is used to hot, summer weather.
Unfortunatly these parrots get older and there could be a possibility of these parrots fighting with your cockatiel.
I let my budgie fly around my room, it gives her alot of exercise.
Reading your description it is obvious you do not understand the gender of you cockatiel.
Look underneath its tail
If there are stripes its a female and if there is nothing then it is a male
Remember to:
Provide fresh water every day to your bird.
Place toys such as mirrors and bells around his/her cage
Clean out him/her cage every week
Provide bird seed and fruit such as apple, banana and pear to you bird
Provide beak nutrients
I hope you and your bird have a happy life togethor!

Question by kldt7: Just inherited an aviary with 6 birds. I know next to nothing about birds, any help appreciated!?
2 ringnecked doves, one quite old and feeble, beak is crossed and should probably be trimmed? 2 budgies, 1 cockateil, 1 lovebird. It is my understanding that some of these birds are not really compatible, but they’ve been together 2 years, and seem to get along ok. They have been fed only wild bird seed, doesn’t seem right to me. Can I put a potted tree in with them, instead of dead branches? Only the doves are tame, can I tame the others? I want to do right by these guys but they are not dogs or cats …….I don’t even know what I don’t know at this point!

Cockatiel Aviary
Category: Cockateil Health Videos
This is my cockatiel aviary that currently holds 18 rescued birds from various situations. Some came in together, some individually, some were found, others had life threatening injuries and were nursed back to health. Each one has a story. The life span of one of these birds is 15-20 years. Something to keep in mind when selecting a pet bird. ![]()

Will an aviary reared baby cockatiel be a good pet?

I had originally hoped of getting a hand reared one but since seeing an ad for aviary reared cockatiel, I was wondering if they would end up to be as tame as a hand reared?

One female recently began mimicking the sounds of the males. This female in question is a normal grey with a grey head and the horizontal bars on the tail. Are some females as vocal as the males?
