Well the bird should have atleast 3 toys in his/her cage , also it is good to have a perch for him/her to sit on at all times also give atlest 1 – 3 toys on that if i yells (or sqwaks) or bites pet trainers advise to blow on him/her , good luck!

How old, and was it hand tame when u got it? Either way ignore it a few days if brand new, leave a TV or radio on when gone and cover with a blanket. He’ll settle down it’ll take a while, new site, smells, noises, and so on. If he squawking while your home he may want attention or is just scared if he’s to bad you can cover to settle him down, once quite remove and repeat as needed he should learn when he’s carrying on and on he’ll be kept in the dark and should learn. Best of luck also do you know the age of the bird?

    Hi,

I have had a cockatiel for 15 years. I would suggest that you go to the cage for the first few days and talk to the bird softly. No other noise but your voice. You could sing to it or whistle, they enjoy noises. I agree, it should have at least three toys and mine also likes items to help manage his beak and feet. The next thing I would do is open the door and leave it open. Just let him know he is not a prisoner, but be careful. I would be close by when the door is open. I am assuming he has not had his wings clipped. When they get out they are so disoriented they will fly into things and can really get hurt. The way that I first got my Coc. out of the cage was with a dowel, or a perch. I introduced it slowly until he finaly would step onto it. And I would always say, step up. I would remove him very slowly from the cage and then just gently sit down and talk to him on the perch in hand. It is like baby steps, you do that enough, until he will come out on his porch and step up on your finger and let you pet him, they want to interact and it won’t be long before that bird will be repeating something you are saying and it will catch you by surprise. Enjoy your bird. Just remember to not put your hand in the cage from the start. It is his territory. You may can later, but not at first. I have access by hand to the inside of all my birds cages but my cockatiel was the hardest.

They squawk to get attention. Try talking to him softly. Yelling only makes it worse. Have you considered a mate for him?
