The key to taming a cockatiel is to take your time. There is no way to quickly tame her, especially if she’s an older bird. Younger birds are far easier to train, because they haven’t yet been set in their ways. If she is older, you will want to give her a few days to get used to her new surroundings before you even try to begin any kind of training regimen. After a few days have gone by and she is comfortable in her cage (eating regularly and moving about the cage without hesitating), you can start putting your hand in the cage but not touching her. Do this a few times a day for several days, then you can attempt to touch her in the cage. Keep training sessions short and frequent so she starts to get used to you. Eventually she will start to get used to your hand and will step up on it. Do not grab her and pull her out of the cage. It has to happen on her own time, because you don’t want her to be scared of you. Good luck!!!
