How do you end a Cockatiels boredom?
Category: Cockateil Toys Q&A
I have one male cockatiel. He has toys, eats like a pig and treats. We let him out of his cage everyday. He does as he pleases with a bit of limitations. But he has one toy he attacks everyday, almost like he’s angry. I’m thinking he’s bored and I can’t think of any way to entertain him more. Any ideas?

I wish I had your peoblem! I have one also..(male) but he’s not bored he’s sexually frusrted…I would think if your is bored, just keep changing things around in his cage! Can’t hurt to try anything! Do you have a miror in there? they love those mirrors and that keeps them very busy…but they also don’t like humans as much anymore either!
Good Luck!
Sounds like you’re doing a good job already! A few things he may like are mirrors and fresh fruits and vegetables. Put only a few toys in his cage at once, maybe a mirror, a bell toy, and something else. Every few days, rotate out one toy for something different. Only give him one type of fruit or vegetable at once, maybe whatever you’re having for breakfast or dinner. It can be different every day, or every few days. This way, he can have constant stimuli, and you wont spend a fortune. With as few as eight different toys, you can keep him entertained, because every time you rotate something new in, it’ll be like it was new all over again! another trick I’ve heard of if getting a box that is slightly larger than the cage and cutting of one side. Then you can put in colored paper, foil, or wrapping paper with interesting patterns on the inside. Make sure the box is just big enough so that he can’t stick his beak or foot our and grab it to chew on.
Hope this helps!
Either another bird of the same gender, or new toys. Even if they have a lot of toys they can get bored fast. I change out my bird toys for all my birds every three days or so, and also change where their cages are or what rooms/cages the birds get to live in. It keeps their minds moving. Another good thing durring the summer is to get a few safe pieces of trees from outside and let him have those, just make sure they are safe trees and cleaned well.
he is board you need to spend time with him teaching him tricks he needs to be kept active brainwise,,they have the mentallity of a four year old child so needs to excersice his brain good luck,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Give him more toys. I would HIGHLY reccomend a bird toy website called 8 beaks.com. They make such creative bird toys and my budgies love them.
buy him a friend of his own kind…i have 2 parakeets….they live in flocks in the wild you know
Our birds have to have toys and their cages rearranged once a week. We also move their cages from one side of the room to the other. We also started leaving on bird or jungle sounds on when we were away for work or out. Our cockatiel actually started mimicking those noises he heard on the CDs. I don’t think any of our birds, we have 4, have less than 15-20 toys each. Each week is like christmas for them. They already know that on Saturdays we change toys because they start getting more vocal on those days anxious and excited about what is happening.
I have good news for you! Your cockatiel attacking your one toy means he’s thrilled to bits and is beating up on that one toy because he’s having more fun than a kid in a candy store ^.^
Parrots should have one toy they’re allowed to beat up.
It helps them burn off pent up energy, plus they can beat the heck out of something without letting it out on their owner. Or the dog. Or another bird. I have birds who adore a hand made ‘bell’ that’s made out of a pudding cup and an old key. They will sit and maul this thing to death every day until I replace it with something new. This thing is so well loved that its got beak marks around the edges, LOL!
If you’d like other toy ideas, you can try foraging toys where the bird is expected to look for treats/food in small containers. There’s a bunch of new toys on the market that have just come out that forces the bird to move around a maze to get to the treat. Some easy to make foraging toys include two pudding cups held together with a shoelace. Or Cheerios on a shoe string. You can buy tiny woven grass hats at craft stores that are not only fun to chew up, but they can hold treats, too. It just requires a bit of time and a crazy imagination ..Or a good book with lots of instructions ^.^
Good luck! Sounds like your guy is well loved!
