Does anyone know how to re-tame my pet cockatiel?

Question by Hazel: Does anyone know how to re-tame my pet cockatiel?
He’s nearly 3 years old and hates fingers, otherwise he is completely tame. He usually hates fingers more when him and our other cockatiel is nesting.
Does any one know how to get him to like f ingers again?

I would first seperate the pair into two different cages, they are more bonded to each other than you. Keep the cages in the same room and allow them play time together, but not living together or nesting.

Start with step one. Get him used to you, offer treats with your hands/fingers. Be patient and don’t give up, it will be like training him in the beginning.

Finger shy. Something bad happened. Like maybe little children poking at him or even worse dumb adults. It will be difficult but I would start by fist training. No fingers seen. Gently let him get use to your fist. Keep it near the open door and see if he will be curious and let him check it out. Don’t enter his safe place(cage). Do this several times a day talking nice to him. Once he gets use to it maybe you can pet him with the back of your fisted hand. Patience this may take a while. One day he will get on it, let him but don’t move it. Next time try moving slowly away from cage. Once you win his trust this way you can start to introduce him to the rest of your fist, hand then one day fingers. Good luck.

Because he now has a bird mate,he is protecting his mate and is no longer bonded to you. If you want him to be hand trained again, you will need to separate him from the female.
You will then have to spend quite some time and win him back. You could clip his wings which will make him very dependant on you and help him to bond with you quicker.
