Product Description
When her old friend Karen drops by with her two-year-old son, Meg Langslow reluctantly agrees to mind him for a few hours. The next morning, when Karen is still MIA, Meg retraces her friend’s footsteps and starts to suspect that her disappearance is linked to at least one serious crime. Has Karen been killed or kidnapped? Is she on the run? What’s the story with her ex-husband Jasper? The police don’t seem to care…So now it’s up to Meg to crack the case—no small task when you consider she’s also dealing with a house full of reptilian guests courtesy of Dad and Grandpa, thinking about starting a family of her own with new husband Michael, and chasing after a two-year-old who doesn’t understand that the bad guys might be after him next.

I looked forward to this book about this family and the connection to animals, etc. Always fun, and I was not disappointed.

Donna Andrews needs to go back to her very first novel and re-read it.
It was the best! And unfortunately all following books in this series have been going downhll ever since. And this one is a true and sure waste of money – expecially the hard back copy.
There is just no sense to the whole thing. The title has nothing to do with the story. The mystery is deficient to the extreme. Her characters are dimming.
She seems to be losing her way in this series. Best to stop now and switch to something new.
That first one was just so great. Now – just disappointing!!

Cockatiels at Seven was just what I needed. Every Meg Langslow book offers me a new way to connect with the cooky protagonist, whether it’s faires, geeks, or head-strong toddlers. In Cockatiels at Seven Andrews scales back her cast of characters, which allows the reader to focus on the plot as opposed to tripping over beasts and relatives and beastly relatives. I like Meg and Michael, and I can’t wait to see what shenanigans await them in the next book.

Part of the Meg Langslow Mystery Series. Lots of fun as usual by Donna Andrews
Rating: 4 / 5
I love Donna Andrews’ books. They are light-hearted and fun. This book is actually the first one to catch my attention (as the owner of four cockatiels) but I bought the first books and read them in order. I couldn’t wait to read this one, but I was rather disappointed.
It’s a cute book and a decent mystery, but the cover/title (as mentioned in other reviews) is really misleading. It barely has anything to do with cockatiels. Cockatiels are one of the most popular pet birds in America, and they’re birds with distinct, unique personalities but in “Cockatiels at Seven” they’re briefly mentioned in the book but aren’t even the main birds in the plot line. I was hoping for something more along the lines of “Murder With Peacocks” or “Murder With Puffins” or “We’ll Always Have Parrots” or any of the books that actually revolve around the birds mentioned in the titles.
I still love Donna Andrews’ books and will continue to read and recommend them, but this one is not one of my favorites, which was a bit sad, as cockatiels are (in case you hadn’t guessed) my favorite birds.
