What small animal should i get: rats, or birds….?
ok, well i am 18. i’d really like to get a small pet. i’ve done a lot of research on rats, cockatiels, and lovebirds. they all sound great. i just can’t decide which one i should get. i am leaning towards 2 rats more than anything…but my bedroom really isn’t a rat proof room. plus, i have a cat who is a killer. she kills wild mice all the time. of course if i got rats i’d keep my cat & the rats away from each other, but i don’t know. what should i get, rats, cockatiels, or lovebirds?
thanks
Going to identify my lost cockatiel?
I’ve posted a few different questions this past week so I’m sure some of you will be familiar with this. I lost my cocaktiel in mid April and now a woman in Chicago thinks she has him. I will be driving up on Sunday to see if it’s him. The pictures she has sent me look just like him and he has a lot of the same habits my Sammie did.
I guess the question is, how am I going to know for sure??? When I heard him sing over the phone it didn’t sound like him? However, I should mention he was on his own for about 4 – 5 weeks in the wild. She said that he whistles a lot like a meadow lark. When we had him Sammie use to do the Wolf Whistle and Bob White. (she said he did that the first few weeks but she hasn’t heard it in awhile)
Will he remember me?? It’s been 2 months since he’s seen me. Anyone else ever lost a bird and then found him later. Did that bird remember you?? Guess I’m just really worried right now. I need some input.
By the way, he did not have a leg band.
And yes, if it is him I promise I will keep his wings clipped. I have 3 other cockatiels and their wings are clipped now. This was a horrible lesson learned.
Why is my male cockatiel chirping constantly and loudly?
It is not an enjoyable sound, maybe shouldn’t be called chirping at all. It drives me crazy sometimes. He is 19 years old and didn’t do this until a year ago.
Are lost pet ads free to post in newspapers?
I want to post a lost ad for my lost cockatiel. I don’t feel like calling them and sounding like a fool when I ask them if I can post them for free. The newspapers in my area are the News Gleaner, Northeast Times and Philadelphia Inquirer.
AHHHHH my cockatiel is attacking me!!!?
i used to make a tent with the covers in my bed. my cockatiel would go inside and hide. after a while, he starts to sing. now when i go sit on my bed or something, my bird flies at my face, trying to bite me. it makes these weird sounds too. it sounds like ggrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrr

What would be a good bird?
I have been doing some research on a good bird for my family. I work from home so I am home all day. I have looked at sun conures, however with the potential noise level, I do not believe that this could be an option since I do live in an apartment. Granted, my neighbors are never home, but you never know when they may move and homebodies would move in.
I do not believe I can get a quaker (and this originally was a thought to have either a quaker or a sun) because I do not believe that my state, Tennessee, allows quakers as a pet. I have considered going to Florida to pick one up…and can still be an option.
My wife does NOT want a cockatiel. She does not see them as desirable, and if we are to make a decision in the next few months, I do believe that a desirable bird to care, raise, and be a part of the family for years to come is important.
Now, what AM I looking for. I would like a playful bird that is medium of size (no parakeet or finch size, min 10in max 24in). A pretty bird that is aesthetic to the eyes (wife), can mimic or “talk”/whistle sounds sim to what we would train them with or can be trained, and is ok for apartment lifestyle as we will prob be in an apartment situation for at least 4 more years until we are Finally done w/ our education.
I have had past experience w/ birds in my family. My father has owned cockatiels and an african grey. If you have any suggestions or ideas, please post. I am and will take all advise seriously.
Why did my cockatiel die suddenly?
My male cockatiel was so playful and full of life, until oneday i removed the sheet that i normally cover him at night with and noticed that he was at the bottom of the cage sitting there with his eyes close. So i tried to play with him but he wouldn’t try to bite like he usually does or make a sound. Then i got nervous like something was wrong and called the vet and they told me to bring him in immediately, so i was on my way to the hospital to get him help and he died on the way. What happened to him?
Is this a good cage for a pair of Cockatiels?
Here’s the Link: http://www.petco.com/product/104557/PETCO-Tear-Shaped-Parrot-Habitat.aspx
As it says the dimensions are: 25″L x 21″W x 30″H
I already did all the research before I got my first Tiel (Yes, I am buying his brother)
The perches the cage comes with are warped (have bumps) but I will still buy additional perches (A Booda Comfy Perch, A Nail Trimming Perch, and some Natural Branch perches FWI)
And of course lots of room = more toys!!!
So do you think it sounds good? Please if you would like to suggest something feel free, but please don’t rant!
OMG!!!!!! I forgot that the tiels will only be in the cage to sleep or if nobody is in the house.
