Wild and Fresh – Grass Seeds to feed your bird
More playful food for parrots! Collecting wild grass seeds is easy, and gives your bird something interesting to eat. This shows some of the wild and fresh seed heads i feed my budgies and cockatiels. This is a type of environmental enrichment, as it is much more stimulating than picking seeds out of a cup. There are probably many more wild seeds that you can be fed to parrots – if you know any names or have pictures, please let me know………………….

Flying Colors Bird Sanctuary has a new resident. She was in a home where they were not able to keep her due to emergency situation. Miso will be adoptable in 6 weeks once we are able to confirm that she has no health issues that need be attended and behavioral evaluation. This helps us to place her in the best environment for her.

How NOT to clip a birds wings
Warning: results of animal cruelty shown. This is Luca the Cockatiels wings after being severely clipped 8 months ago. The photos are from 6 months ago, the footage is recent. She flaps/beats her wings regularly whilst on the spot, and then she tries to take off, but often plummets to the ground in a dangerous way. She has no ability to navigate, little strength, and breaks new feathers occasionally because of the way she falls/lands on things. She has developed some ability to get off the ground – but its dangerous as once off the ground, she slams into things.

Safe Vegetables for Parrots to Eat
Here are pictures of non-toxic veggies that your parrot may enjoy. Like humans, parrots have individual tastes, and may take a little while before deciding they like a food… so be patient, try new things, and just give them little portions at a time. PARSLEY WARNING: parsley is ok to feed your parrot in small quantities, but if you feed it to them too often they may become light sensitive – which means that it will hurt your parrots eyes when exposed to light… one symptom of this in cockatiels is if orange feathers start appearing around the neck (im not talking about the orange cheeck patch) so its ok to feed your parrot parsley, but keep it to once a week at the most.

Demanding Cockatiel
Smokey is very demanding about having her head pet, if your holding her on your shoulder she’ll rub her head against your face and demand a rub. If you try to ignore her she”ll get angry and bite your ear! I have 4 cockatiels total, Smokey is the newest and was adopted from an animal shelter, they said her owner surrended her due to their health. Someone loved this little angel very much and I can tell she still misses them. I am very grateful to provide her a new home with lots of love!
