My new Cockatiel?

Question by Jewels: My new Cockatiel?
I bought a new Cockatiel a few days back that just weaned 2 weeks ago. I named him Spencer. He’s very Healthy Vet approved and beautiful. I bought him a lovely cage with toys all sorts of things. I noticed he don’t screech at all though. He plays and prunes all all day checks his bod out in the mirror but doesn’t screech. I was looking forward to being awakened in the morning by him. He’s very sweet and loves shoulder rides… will he eventually start to screech? I did though teach him to bob his head. When I do it he does back.
He can make noise but 99% of the time he’s quiet.
Macy- Yeah growing up my mother had one that would screech so loud it would pierce your ears. I just find it Odd that he’s so quiet. But hey, At-least I can sleep in.
Mockingbird- I dunno the one I had growing up sure would wake you. LOL he would say Bat Bird a million times over until my mom would let him out. Then when she came into his sight oh lord, You would have to wear cottonballs.
Ms Smurfy- Thanks for the great advice. I offer him all sorts of yummy treats and he loves peas. I do know the things not to feed. He seems to be very happy and content with me so far..he doesn’t bite just gives gentle kisses and thinks he’s a dentist…LOL

Trouble shooting for baby cockatiel that does not want to eat seeds?

Question by Ami: Trouble shooting for baby cockatiel that does not want to eat seeds?
I need some help, my baby cockatiel, Sid is a month and a half your old and he does not want to work for his food. I have been handfeeding him Exact’s baby bird formula, and he is now slowly starting to eat seeds. He will eat the seeds for a little while, but then he will stop. He is not wanting to eat enough to fill him. I make sure that he is fed so that he doesn’t starve, but I have also been trying to incorperate more seeds.

Help?
~Thanks
The seeds I am talking about are both mullet and regular seeds. And he tends to go for the regular food more often than not.

He shouldn’t be on an all seed diet. You should try more soft foods. I wouldn’t even offer seeds. Seeds = FAT.

How is it that cockatiel eggs can hatch outside the nesting box?

Question by Jacquelyn K: How is it that cockatiel eggs can hatch outside the nesting box?
i have a mating pair of cockatiels who refused to use the nesting box I tried everything. Well after 4 years of unhatched eggs two have hatched but on the bottom of the cage. What do I need to do to make sure that the babies will even have a chance to make it, and what are the odds of them making it out the nesting box?

I have a sun conure parrot that I trained to go to the toilet every morning for his big dump. I learned the hard way that they hold their poop all night and in the morning they dump huge. Well I got tired of being dumped on so I trained him to do it in the toilet. Now, he will wait forever just to do it in the toilet. He is so cute

How do I train my cockatiels?

Question by Tico: How do I train my cockatiels?
I have 2 cockatiel and i keep trying to train them but they are still very scared of me Idk what is wrong. Are they not getting trained because they are mates or something? Thanks

Best answer:

Answer by Autumn.
Try training them individuallly. Use lots of treats and don’t give up. Do they know step up? If not, then try teaching them that first, You could also try target training. I’m sure if you just keep trying they’ll come around. Goodluck :]

Oh, how old are they too?

will my cockatiel be able to be a surrogate mother?

Question by Jill S: will my cockatiel be able to be a surrogate mother?
I found a robins egg, and for the heck of it I decided since I have several cockatiels and parakeets, maybe one of them could sit on the egg until it hatches. I figure its better than letting it die. Well, anyway, it hatched and all of the birds in my cage(very big cage), want to play parent. They are feeding the baby, but now what? Will it get the nutrition it needs? Do I keep a wild bird? How will it know how to fly if I set it free when the time comes? Any help here would be great.
