Single Parent Cockatiel?

Question by S B: Single Parent Cockatiel?
Mr. Wistler my male cockatiel just flew a way on July 17 2007.

His wife had just laid an egg the day before and now she has three. Does anybody know if a single parent cockatiel will be able to handle the full load of feeding 4? baby birdies?

She has been sitting on them constantly all by herself since Wednesday night non-stop. She does come out for food then back in again she goes.

Will be able to handle the full load or will I need to help and had freed them. WHAT SHOULD I DO? (another man is out of the question! what if she don’t like him!?)

This is what i did to get a hamster: (My mom is hard to convince and this worked!) Here are some tips:
1. keep your room clean
2.do chores around the house to get extra money so u can buy the stuff yourself
3. Show responsibility
4. be mature
5. write essays and add up the total of all the supplies you need. It makes you look responsible ;)
6. they dont cost much
7. they dont smell unless u dont pick up their pee and poop
8. they DONT carry diseases if you get them from a reliable pet store

A cage can range anywhere from $ 50-120
bedding $ 6-16
The food- $ 3-8

Good Luck!

If I get another cockatiel and put it in the same cage as my male cockatiel will they mate and have baby’s?

Question by billy john: If I get another cockatiel and put it in the same cage as my male cockatiel will they mate and have baby’s?
I am thinking about getting another cockatiel because I don’t have much time to give my male cockatiel that much attention so im going to get another cockatiel.
somebody on yahoo told me to get a female since I already have a male because male and male will fight.
but if I put a female and male together will they mate and have baby birds?
annd would the bird I have now have a problem with putting another bird in the same cage?

If you want your birds to mate, then you have to buy them a nestbox. With the nest box, they will not lay eggs.

Lump under budgie’s wing – approximate cost of removal??

Question by xamyxisxsnazzyx: Lump under budgie’s wing – approximate cost of removal??
Hi all,
My budgie has this huge lump under his wing.
It started off quite small – we thought it was just a minor injury that he got from quite a cranky cockatiel he used to share a large cage with.
But it has recently gotten a lot bigger. It is now a little smaller than a ping pong ball…and there are several smaller ones around it.
My question is: how much, approximately (obviously depending on which vet I go to!) will it cost to remove it? Because my mum won’t let me take him in if it’s too expensive. We haven’t got enough money to take the bird to the vet willy nilly.
Also, he’s not sick or anything, so it’s probably not malignant cancer, he just looks very unhappy…:(
So what is the minimum cost probably going to be?? In Aus dollars would be good :)
AND
If anyone who answers can recommend a really cheap but really good vet in Canberra, Australia, please let me know!!!!

It must be a tumor. Remove it ASAP. Tumors are the #1 budgie killer. It’s ushually on average, $ 200(american, sorry can’t translate it into pounds or whatever you use) dollars. It will save your budgie’s life though. I’m glad your so observant. Birds are experts at hiding illnesses.

I have 2 male cockatiel birds both in the same cage, they just started fighting a lot?

Question by bsx021: I have 2 male cockatiel birds both in the same cage, they just started fighting a lot?
When I get home from work there’s feather all around the cage, one bird is always picking at the other. Is it not good to have them in the same cage? Will they kill each other? The one bird that does all the picking will not quit pacing the cage and is always loud and will never stop. I was thinking about getting rid of that bird because it is gettting on my nerves. Would it help if I got the wings and toes clipped? I need some advise.(thanks)

Should I report this?

Question by Deirdre M: Should I report this?
Me and my family went to see a house (we’re thinking about moving). The owner wasn’t there and my mom’s a realtor so we went to see it. The owner of the house had a cockatiel and it was kept in horrible conditions. The cage was rusted and there was poop all over the entire cage and all the toys. The water was black so my mom got some fresh water for it and the water cup was so dirty that she had to scrape the black stuff off with her fingernail and still couldn’t get it all out. The bird was kept in a very hot room and it was also greasy. I didn’t know birds could get greasy but I guess it had never ahd a bath. I say “it” because I couldn’t tell the sex of it. The cere was a swollen pink color. I think it was sick and I’m wondering, I know this is neglect, but is this also abuse? I want to report this person but I’m scared that I’ll do that and then when the people go to get the bird it’ll be in better conditions or something and they won’t save it. What should I do????

from my opinion you should report it and bring it to veterinary.

Apartment VS Pets who to bring?

Question by Stephie: Apartment VS Pets who to bring?
Hey there,
So I’m moving Sunday and I have a big issue. My apartment will only accept 2 pets max. I have 2 dogs and a bird (cockatiel). The dogs and bird are all in weight restriction. I really can’t believe it but they are counting my bird as a pet even though it lives in a cage and is only 6in long. I know I’m definitely taking one of the dogs up there as I have had him forever and we are extremely bonded. I got my other dog over a year ago and I love him but we don’t have as strong of bond as me and the other dog. I got the bird over a month ago and he is very much bonded to me. Whatever pet I don’t take will go to my mom or if it’s the bird I leave behind, he will be sold. I can’t stand to lose one of my pets as they are really all I have and this is like choosing a child to be adopted off. I love them all and I don’t want to see any of them go to my mother as she is the reason I’m leaving in the first place. The car ride is also going to be 12 hours. My main dog is fine in the car but the one I’m considering taking gets extremely car sick. I don’t know how the bird will handle the car ride but when we brought him home he seemed fine. I think we will be traveling by night, any suggestions? Anyhow, please tell me your thoughts and who I should bring. I’m trying to convince the manager to let me bring all 3 but they seem very strict. I don’t get why it should matter since they are still getting money.

Sorry to rant, Thank you in advance.

Answer by RattiesRule!
This is a very tricky question. I would say, take the bird, because it seems like the other dog would be happy with another owner, while I’m not sure if the cockatiel will be able to bond to another owner well; it seems to have bonded quickly and strongly to you. Also, two dogs in one apartment may be a lot for you to handle, but I don’t personally know you or your dogs (or your cockatiel!). The choice is truly up to you. My condolances for you having to do this.
