I’m very sorry to hear that! I’d definitely take the surviving bird to the vet, and prolly the dead one too, in case it will provide any important info.

I’m getting a cockatiel but I don’t know if my mom would want to pay for the vet visits?
Question by ?: I’m getting a cockatiel but I don’t know if my mom would want to pay for the vet visits?
So I have been wanting a pet cockatiel for pretty much my entire life, and a few weeks ago my mom agreed to let me have one. I found someone that is wanting to rehome her bird, and I am seeing it tomorrow, and buying it if I like it. But then I just thought about how we’ll probably have to take it to an avian vet after we get it to make sure that it’s healthy, and that can get pretty expensive. I haven’t told my mom about this yet, and I’m afraid she won’t want to pay for it. I definitely can’t, because I don’t have a job and I barely have any money.
Also, if it turns out to be sick, what do I do? Should I complain to the previous owner or should I just wait until it gets better or what?
Please help!!

It sounds like you shouldn’t get the pet.If you can’t take the responsibility to get it taken care of, or the maturity to ask your mom to help pay for it.

When letting a cockatiel out of the cage for the first time . . . ?
Question by Nonickname: When letting a cockatiel out of the cage for the first time . . . ?
When letting a cockatiel out of the cage for the first time what is the best way to communicate with him? My cockatiel is very uncomfortable/scared of us so I don’t know how well its going to be when we take him out. Do you feed him some type of food, or just let him walk around the ground by himself, hold him on your finger and talk to him, etc??

Why did my cockatiel die?
Question by Devin: Why did my cockatiel die?
About a week ago we got a cockatiel from a friend to be a companion the the one we already had. When we got her she was a little mal-nourished and was very aggressive to humans. We let her get used to her surroundings for two days and then we started working with her. She started growing her feathers back and became a very loving bird. I was able to pick her up and play with her with no hesitation from her. Yesterday morning she was fine and then later in the after noon she started acting sick. she wasn’t grabbing my finger or the perch with her feet and she was acting real lethargic. i put a to well and some water at the bottom of a different cage from my other bird and placed her on it. within about an hour she died. I don’t understand why she died when she seemed so much healthier then she did when we first got her. Is my other bird going to die too?

Does anyone know how to train a cockatiel to talk or sing?
Question by Amber The Ferret: Does anyone know how to train a cockatiel to talk or sing?
And, should I start training when I first get him, or wait
Best answer:
Answer by Dee
When you first get your bird, give it a week to get use to things around him. After he is settled in then i would start to train him. To teach him how to whistle just repeat and repeat what you want him to learn. They will usually whistle back something. Good Luck

how long should my cockatiel take to come out of the cage?
Question by ANDREW: how long should my cockatiel take to come out of the cage?
my cockatiel is 6 weeks old and can now fly around my room its cage doors are open but it will not come out how long before it will come out

Answer by Nessie
Your cockatiel may just need some help climbing the cage. Since he is very young, he may not be able to climb the cage. I had a bird who couldn’t climb the cage for 3 months, but one of my cockatiels could climb the cage at four weeks. It really depends how mature the bird is.
