My cockatiel goes in the corner and talks to himself and plays with paper?

Question by Ðisco ?tick: My cockatiel goes in the corner and talks to himself and plays with paper?
Sometimes he makes little noises, he’s not sick I know this. He plays with the paper that’s under the cage, and sometimes makes cute little noises. But why do they do this? Is he just bored? lol

Best answer:

Answer by Sarah M
Maybe he just enjoys playing with the paper. My cockatiels love playing with paper and they also sing to themselves and hum too its really cute. If you are really worried then you can take your bird to the vet and ask them about it.

Why is my cockateil biting? I don’t want him to learn its ok….Help!?

Question by Mrith: Why is my cockateil biting? I don’t want him to learn its ok….Help!?
I have just gotten a 6-7 week old cockatiel and he has been great except that he has a habit of nipping at my hand, and recently my face when I have him cuddling up on my chest as I pet him.
I don’t know how I can discorage him from doing this with out haveing to put him in his cage after he does something “Bad” because I don’t want him to think of his cage as a punishment or a bad place.

What should I do? How do I stop this behavor before it becomes a problem? The fingers don’t hurt because he is still young but I fear that the behavor will become a problem if it is not stoped at his young age. He is 6-7 week old, is this normal for a bird his age?

Best answer:

Answer by Bob the Chemist
Best thing to do is to is discipline him while he’s young.

Spray him with water or you could just yell at him.
Just don’t let him develop bad habits.

Are there any effects of antibiotics to my cockatiel?

Question by * Breakfast at Tiffany’s *: Are there any effects of antibiotics to my cockatiel?
I took him to the vet after he started having a lot of blood loss due to an infection, and the vet gave me an antibiotic. He’s been sleepy all day, he eats occasinally, this is weird but he also has firm dark green poop. Is he sick cause I really don’t want to take him to the vet again?

Best answer:

Answer by kim
We’re not vets here.

Ring your vet & tell him about your concerns, ask about side effects etc…some birds do better than other on antibiotics.

my 2.5 year old Lutino Cockatiel started in with violent Night frights all of a sudden why?

Question by shirley_m_keelty: my 2.5 year old Lutino Cockatiel started in with violent Night frights all of a sudden why?
Nothing in my apartment has changed. But now she is having them almost daily. And if she is out of the cage she hits the ceiling and goes down to the floor, she is only out when I am home. I am afraid when she has them in the cage and I am not here she could get badly hurt. I have a light on at all times . I bought stress food for her to help?

Best answer:

Answer by M.C Birds
Hi,
First if this happens daily out of cage, I would have the wings clipped. Usually the first 4 feathers that actually create lift. I would also examine the actual diet. Are you providing enough fruits and veggies, little sunflower seeds, ect.
Is there a window in or around the area where the bird is out? Can he see reflections moving? The reflections in windows and mirrors can cause this attack. Also, if the lights are dim it can cause stress also. These birds cannot see well at night or at twilight.
Hope any of this helps.

Can I still train my Cockatiel, even though I haven’t interact with it for 5 or something months?

Question by Kelvin: Can I still train my Cockatiel, even though I haven’t interact with it for 5 or something months?
Like train it to be friendlier to me?

Best answer:

Answer by Monicka S
Hi, I myself, also have Cockatiel’s. It depends, did you raise this bird, or did you buy it from a store already grown? Yes, it is never to late to train your bird. Cockatiel’s are very smart (from the parrot family), you can even teach them how to talk! Mines knows how to say its own name! I suggest you start slow by putting bird food in your hand and letting him eat it from your palm. Speak to it in a calm manner and don’t yell in front of it! Yelling in front of Cockatiels tends to cause aggression. Any-who, make time to carry the bird a couple minutes a day. Whistle to it as well, just act like your another Cockatiel! Trust me, this works. I did all this, and mines now knows how to say its name. In fact, it even eats dinner with my family on the table! You can train your too, just be nice and patient! Hope I helped, good luck!! :)

Cockateil breeding question…?

Question by i_adore_horses: Cockateil breeding question…?
Ok I have had one of my birds for a couple years now. I wanted her to breed with my male but he was very attached to me (actually would hump my hand) so he had no interest in her. Unfortunately he and my other female died from a bacteria brought in by a baby bird I tried to save (no contact but in the same room. I know I’m a horrible pet owner. I feel guilty every day) So since his death, after she went through antibiotics, I bought two more cockatiels. She seemed to really be hitting it off with one of them. They were doing the breeding chatter and everything. But she has suddenly bonded with me. I take them all out every day but she has become obsessed with me (like my male was). I have also been opening the nesting box every day so they’ll be used to me doing that and I think that it has just confused her even more. Now every time I walk into the room she runs up to the box and does her breeding chirp. And she now wants nothing to do with the male in the cage. They clean each other but that’s about it.

Sooo….my question is this… have I totally ruinned their chances of breeding? Or is there a way to get her less interested in me. I don’t want to stop socializing with them. Any thoughts?

I have the same problem. Unfortunately, I think the only answer is to stop paying attention to her. I have a big walk-in flight cage, and every time I would go in there she would be all over my shoulders and would fly to me and clean my teeth and my hair. i separated her with a male I wanted her to pair with and I think it may be working, but i dont know.
I do know that if it does work she will still always love you because she is very bonded to you now.
Good luck and Im sorry about your previous birdies, some times we have to learn the hard way, I know I have on different occasions. Its unfortunate, but you did have good intentions. you just have to learn from your mistakes.

I think my birdy is getting sick! He’s a cockatiel. And he’s like maybe 15-20 years old. He is fluffed up, and his eyes are blinking and like twitching. I’m really worried! I have a towel on top of his cagee,, and he’s by the sunlight the house is 67 degrees!

What can I do?

Best answer:

Answer by Dan
he is very old and honestly you need to take him to a vet that is the only thing you normally can do with birds, other than different food and possibly more interaction
