What should I do for my sick bird?
Question by kvnniv: What should I do for my sick bird?
I have a Cockatiel that is about 11 years old, but lately she has been acting strange. She hasn’t eaten anything for about three days. But she does drink alot of water but when she drinks alot, she regurgitates it back up onto the bottom of her cage. After she does this she just sits on her pirch sleeping and not eating like she used to always do. She is begining to look skinny and still hasnt touched her food. There is also a decrease of feces on the bottom of the cage since I recently changed the bottom of the cage. I know that these are all signs of illness but is there anything I can do beforhand like feeding her myself or anything else I can do to check for something more serious. Does anyone maybe know what she has so I can help her? Please help me so I can save my poor bird before she leaves me.

Unfortunately, if she’s already losing weight and can’t drink water, she should be brought to a vet immediately. She’s probably really dehydrated and the vet can give her IV fluid and nutrition. Force feeding her won’t be practical if she can’t keep anything down.
She’s not defecating because she’s not eating

Christmas Santa Claus Picture with 8 Cockatiels, 2 Budgies & 1 Quaker Parrot
Every year my wife and her sister take their 11 birds (Cockatiels and Parakeets) to have a picture made with Santa. It is quite a production to get 11 birds photographed. This year I video taped it.

Is my cockatiel too old to tame?
Question by Anonymous: Is my cockatiel too old to tame?
I think she’s about a year old. I’ve had her for about seven months already, have always been nice to her, and she just won’t let up on the bad behavior. She doesn’t bite hard, but she hates to be handle and hisses at people.
Why is my cockatiel so unhappy? Is she just too old to tame now?

Answer by Psyquas
Provably not, you just need to spend a LOT of time with her. Don´t handle her just yet, you will just make her hate iot even more. Feed her seeds with your hand, talk to her and so on until she feels confortable to go out of her cage BY HER OWN. This can take some months, so don´t loose your patience.
Good luck.

Seuss Sun Conure
I was found hanging out near the flock of wild conures. Mickaboo has taken me in and is getting me vet care. I eat pellets and fruit, and love toys. I’m not a screamer. So, will you give me a forever home? Mar. 28, 2008 I’m just like a teenage boy Sun Conure. I flew away from my home, and when I was out in the wild, I could not find my way home. Thanks to you, Mickaboo, for taking me in and having the doctor check my health. I lost 2 of tail feathers, but doctor said they will grow back. I took my meds and had a recheck. Now, I’m a beautiful and healthy Sun Conure again. I am a very good guy and a great eater. I don’t scream or bite much at all. I’m also chatty and I like to talk into the dish, to make a louder sound. Some times I make human voice, sound like words, and my foster mom said she never can understand what I said. I love to make friends with other sun conures. I love to beg their attention. I am happy to sit on my cage all day and hang up side down. I love the long toys to play, I’m very distributed. I always need a fresh, safe toys supply. I love bathing, more water the better, then show my sexy body, and flap wings burn off my a little energy. I like to sit on you shoulder be scratched, and sit around your neck to keep me warm. I’m a charming little fellow; I can make your day. Seuss has been happily adopted. Nov. 09, 2008

As long as it is cleaned regularly it should be ok.
Depends on what it is made from.
Scratches can be a problem for holding bacteria.

So…I have an incredibly old cockatiel and am wondering what to expect?
Question by Sandra: So…I have an incredibly old cockatiel and am wondering what to expect?
My cat died very recently, so I’ve been overly aware of all of our elderly pets. Every time our 17-year-old dog so much as has a paw slip on a linoleum floor, I hold my breath. But there are no pets in our house as ancient as our pet cockatiel, Herman. He has been in our house since before I was born, and I’m nineteen. He was not a baby when he moved in, either. In fact…he was given to my uncle for a birthday present. On his ELEVENTH birthday. And while I’m not sure of my uncle’s exact age now, I assume that he is somewhere around my mother’s age and she would have turned 47 today. So Herman must be in his thirties, or very close to it. Right now he is of good health. His appetite is healthy, he sings, he chirps, he clips his beak on the bars of his cage if he wants attention, and he climbs around and around his circular cage many times a day, depending on what he wants to look at. So now is not the issue. But when things do turn bad someday, what will the signs be?
I am just tired of being taken unawares. My cat died of a chronic sickness (heart failure), but she hid it entirely from us until it was way too late for medication to help. I have heard that birds, too, will conceal illnesses. I just want to be prepared and be aware of it when his age finally catches up to him, so I can make him as comfortable as I can.
