Do I have to wait a week to take my new (hand-fed) baby cockatiel out of it’s cage to play/sit with it?

I just bought the cockatiel yesterday and the breeder said to wait a week to let it out of the cage, but it seems so lonely and scared. It liked me handling it when I was in the store.

What kind of toys do cockatiels like?

I’m adopting a baby hand-fed cockatiel the 2nd week of January. I have budgies right now, but I’ve never owned a cockatiel before. I’ve been reading as much as I can find about them. But I have one question, what kind of toys do they like?

Any suggestions would be great, I’m going out shopping for the cage and toys this weekend after Christmas.

Have a nice holiday! :)
Lol, no young children. :)

over breeding?

Have a pair of cockatiels that raised a clutch of 4 successfully in their first try, the eggs hatched mid Dec 2007. The second time again a clutch of 4 mid Apr 2008…….. no problem. The third time a clutch of 5 were laid, two eggs hatched Jun 2, 2008, and 2 more after 2 days, now the chicks are still very young just opened their eyes. Two days ago I was going to clean the nest out when I discovered 2 eggs. Should I be concerned about the parents health and toss the eggs out or I should not disturb them. Please Help…? kindly appreciate any professional suggestion.
I thank every one for many good tips.
Just to give you an update now the eggs are 3, and no it is not from the hatched previous clutch, because I clean the nest every 3 days, they usually suppose to lay eggs when the chicks are ready to leave the nest, but this time like I said the chicks just started to open their eyes and they are nesting on the new eggs and feeding the chicks, I planned to remove the nest this time, but they did not give me a chance, my concern is if there is an imminent health if the eggs stay in.

Should I Report This As Animal Abuse?

Yahoo! Answers Members,

Hello, I have two Normal-Grey cockatiels. My brothers’s friend was selling them for fifty dollars, and my mom said I could have them as long as I took care of them, and all of their welfare.

Anyways, I went to their house to ask about the birds’ heath, diet, housing, and so forth. What I found out is, they were breeding all their birds. They had two lovebirds, and eight cockatiels. They were all brother and sisters! Anyways, she said that she feeds them on a strict seed diet, has never handled them, doesn’t handle any of her birds, and she NEVER cleans out the cages. They were in the poorest condition I have ever seen. They were in a cage the size for a single parakeet. I bought them right away, I couldn’t see them like that.

Now we have had them for about three months, and they are angels. They have a huge cage, that comes up to my hip, and I’m about five feet. They are super friendly because I’ve been working with them everyday, they are so scared of water, fruits, and veggies. We are working on these behavioral issues. We have took them to the Avian vet several times, and we have gotten their health back. They have came out of their shell.

They have twenty-six birds, and they are ALL inbred. They are kept in tiny cages, never cleans them, or handles them, and they are deprived of fruits/veggies. Should I report this?

I’m not sure. The lady likes to lie a lot, and she barely has any money for her kids, let alone the birds. I’m thinking I should, and I could keep them in an aviary, but she says that she’ll take the cockatiels back and say we stole them from her. What should I do!?
Should I take the birds to live with me? I can work more to support them. I have seventeen animals and I foster care for small/medium sized birds. I’m not sure, because the babies would be sick (they already have defomations and health issues).

Once I bring the cockatiel home, do I let it out of the cage straight away?

If no, then how am I supposed to clean its cage? How long before I can take her out?
The cage was clean, but you are supposed to clean it everyday. So how am I supposed to clean it if I cannot take her out of the cage?

http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2755099

Also please pick out some toys and other supplies i need from there too.

I will choose best answer. The best answer should have opinion of cage, some toys, perches, and other things.

If the cage isn’t good, which one is good?

Cockatiel cage help?

I have recently ordered a cage for my cockatiel, and this is the picture:

I am wondering, the designs near the top, are they dangerous because a cockatiels feet might get stuck between? Or are they big enough?
